Dr. Fauci: ‘No Reason Why We Shouldn’t Be Able to Vote, in Person or Otherwise’

The problem is that it is not necessary to make it so hard to vote.
Waiting in line to vote is not a problem.
I, and a few thousand others, do it in my county every election cycle.

Sometimes it rains. Sometimes it is cold.
But we deal with it just fine.

Those is rich, well-connected neighborhoods have shorter lines at better facilities. Those in poorer neighborhoods have fewer polling places, are understaffed, and have to wait much longer in line. Also many people with working class jobs can only vote on their way home from work, when everyone else in their neighborhood is voting. With kids at home they often cannot afford to wait in line for hours, and so they reluctantly have to give up their right to vote because of an arbitrary system over which they have no control. Those really privileged, like Trump, can just drop their ballot in the mail - a privilege that Trump does not want to share with the rest of the citizens.

They could make election day a national holiday, or adequately fund all polling places, or establish more polling places where they are currently overloaded, or expand early voting so that one can vote over the course of at least a week, or allow mail-in voting. But all of those solutions will also be rejected for made-up reasons, while the real reason is that those in power (both Democrat and Republican) do not want to upset the status quo by empowering a wider participation in the political process.

We need to return to the days when voting was restricted to one day,a paid day off,so everyone has the opportunity to vote. The Dems idea to make implementt only vote in ballots in addition to early voting, which keeps getting earlier and earlier.,clearly in an attempt to get an edge on the results.

There never was such a time everywhere. It is currently a state-by-state issue. And even then, it is limited to just a few hours - not the whole day. But I have a feeling you still want to allow people like Trump to vote by mail, right?

If these measures result in more people voting, and if more people voting happens to benefit Democrats, then so be it. The goal of expanding voting is a good one regardless of who it benefits. Since US voter turnout trails that in most other developed countries, we could stand lots of improvement in that area.

Did I say that? I am merely making the argument for one voting day.Period not months ahead of time and not mail in only as it is in most dem states, such as where I live.

In a way - it is funny that those who claim that minorities are disfranchised by the requirement to show a government issued ID to vote - because they are unable or incapable of obtaining them now think they can easily navigate the mail in voting process … I live in a state that has 100% mail in voting - which requires that you process your vote early enough to have it arrive by 0800 on election day … post marks do not count. You have to complete the ballot properly [proper markings, proper implement to make the markings] and sign the envelope it is returned in - whether it is mails USPS or dropped of at a ballot collection location [City Halls, Libraries etc] … People then complained it was not fair that the voter had to place a stamp on the ballot - so now - this year - return envelopes come with prepaid postage … and then some poll person compares your signature with the signature on record and decides whether it looks similar … ballots are mailed to people who have died, people who have moved, to people ineligible to vote …

We had issues in one election - one year - my daughters ballot did not arrive - they are mailed on successive days not all at once. When it failed to arrive, she requested another be sent - - it dod not arrive. A call to the County revealed the second mailing was returned by our Carrier to the County as un-deliverable … She actually filed a complaint with the USPS because it became apparent that the carrier [probably because of other received mail or lawn signs] did not want a ballot returned from our household … they said they dealt with it and blamed it on a substitute carrier. We believe that was the carriers excuse when confronted.

In the primary which is closed - Oregonians reported that their affiliation had been changed - even though they did not request the change. They were unable to cast a ballot for party candidates and were only able to cast otes for non-partisan and measures. Not all but most issues where where they conducted business at the DMV related to their license. It was a clitch the State said … did not help those wanting to vote and did not account for all of the changes that happened.

Even though we have voted by mail for decades - I am actually not a huge fan - and for those who say there are not problems - there are as illustrated above and the potential for fraud exists.

Not all states require ballots be received by polls closing time - they accept post marks …

I see this as a problem in national elections with delays in counting ballots adding more uncertainty in the results

Postmark and then found ballots usually related to transferring ballots from one polling place to a localized counting location - has allowed for “mysterious ballots to show up” after the initial ballot counts … google found ballots … a in some poll worker finds two boxes of ballots they forgot in their trunk etc … there are stories like that every election.

Thbolt saying something false . . . .
Except there isn’t voter fraud.
Then contradicting his own premise . . .
There have been very few convictions over the last twenty years.
I am surprised there have been ANY convictions of this exceedingly difficult-to-prove crime which I think is likely rampant.

(After all . . . If people would burn down buildings, steal and loot what does not belong to them, and beat and rape others
all in the name of getting their way,
WHY NOT a little voter fraud
from these same “exemplars” of society?).

Mail ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, Nov. 3, and received by Nov. 6.
They were counting absentee votes well into December in 2016. Trump didn’t like it that most of these votes went against him, even though they didn’t affect the electoral college.

When Trump appointed Kobach to look for it, he couldn’t find it.
What do you expect him to do? Drone the polling centers?

Thbolt . . .
I expected Kobach to find voter . . .
Well I didn’t.
laws restricting the right to vote are unnecessary.
Which is why we don’t have any such laws. (It was an attempt by Tbolt at an ipse dixit fallacy by presupposition).

None of your arguments are persuasive Thbolt.

This entire thread is based on voting by mail and there is a wish to make that more difficult.
Another (also unpersuasive) attempt at a built-in presupposition.

You were the one who already admitted voter fraud exists.

(Thanks for making my point Tbolt.)

Just a mere 18 years ago when my husband and I moved to our current home,we had to bring two forms of ID to the polling site. Our DL and a bill with our names and address’ on it. Now that’s considered discriminatory and too difficult?

vz71. Great point on voter lines. They can be long or short in many places. Locals should be taking care of that. Not the feds. (Leftists always want MORE nanny Government. I am surprised they are not asking for the UN to take over.)

@Jeanne_S. Also a good point about proof.
I had to provide proof bak in my Democrat days.

I was involved campaigning for Democrats etc.
Nobody thought that was a hinderance to voting then.

Nobody was worried about influenza or bladder capacity (at least like this) when they thought Hillary was going to walk away with an election.

These concerns strike me as more politically motivated rather than benevolence.

I am not buying it.
