Dr.Oz had Dr Eban Alexander on today, the author of Proof of Heaven. He had a near death experience and was talking about it. He believes in reincarnation. I thought “good there’s proof heaven exists” until he talked about reincarnation.
Thoughts?
 
He probably had a delusion of some sort. Much like that girl that believed she saw Pope John Paul II in hell.
 
I don’t give much credence to Dr. Oz, so I wouldn’t tend to extend much to his guests. 😛

Was there some part of his near death experience which “proved” reincarnation to him? Or is it just something he believes in quite separate from the actual experience? Even if we take for granted that his experience was genuine, it doesn’t mean that he is understanding it correctly.
 
Early church Fathers once stated if one could transmigrated from animal or person why can’t anyone remember there own past lives and expect to correct their mistakes. By the way Holy Scriptures state Forunto men are all appointed to die then comes judgement .
Very clearly we all are to die onlty once and then judged according to our deeds done on Earth. Personally I wouldn’t care much for having to die over and over again to try to correct something that I can’t remember .😃

I didn’t watch the whole thing but an audience member asked about reincarnation and he said we keep coming back until we get things right. I think that’s what he said.
 
Dr. Oz himself isn’t a bad person, he’s probably a good person but as for so many personalities, when you are putting on a show every single day like he is, then sometimes, you may find wild theories being a part of it. After all, he was called before congress with some of the advice he was giving on his show.

That said, it sounds like this thread is more about what the guest said and not Dr. Oz himself.

If one wants to know exactly what happened on the show, I use to read a blog ever so often that gave a complete synopsis of all of his shows in some detail. Perhaps one could search the internet to find out more of what was said.

I would take stuff like this with a grain of salt. Generally you only want to believe stories about the afterlife that validate your preconceived notions of what the afterlife is like.
 
Its a talk show… 'nuff said.

“Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 ← I’m not sure but I think that verse means that no one has seen heaven (“which God hath prepared”).
 
There is a current vogue for reincarnational beliefs, possibly because:
  1. Westerners love things that are foreign, strange, and exotic; Oriental teachings such as reincarnation fall into that category.
  2. While reincarnation really does not make sense (there’s a new “being” with a new mind, so what if anything is there to reincarnate?), it does sound “kinder” than going to Purgatory or Hell. “You keep coming back till you work off your karma.” Who or what the “you” would be remains clear as mud.
There has been a snowstorm of NDE accounts since 1977, with all manner of afterlife travelogues. In all likelihood, DO chose one that would have the most appeal to his audience (and where the NDEr was available to the show).

I for one don’t find NDE convincing precisely because there is so much divergence in the type of afterlife reported.

I don’t put faith in them. They **could, **after all, just be the work of a dead head using up the last bit of oxygen, and science might one day prove that.

The accounts also seem to diverge an awful lot.

Have you read anything by neuroscientist Mario Beaureguard? His books The Spiritual Brain and Brain Wars led me to believe NDEs are real and not a product of the brain.🤷

I dont know, Ive read quite a few NDEs, most fall into 2 categories, the person either feels peace and joy, or they feel they are in a dark place. I found it frightening that so many were SO similar, especially ‘the void’ ones, those absolutely had me awake that night.

I could blow NDEs off if there were not so many similar experiences, I mean, these people are experiencing ‘something’.

There was a woman in the hospital who had either a NDE or she actually died. I forget which. When she was revived she talked about a tennis shoe on the roof of the hospital that she saw
when she was having her NDE. There was no way she could’ve known about the shoe but they later found out she was right.

She not only described where the shoe was, but was able to describe how the toe was worn, how the shoelaces were laying, etc.

That particular instance seems to have been debunked, sad to say.

Isn’t euphoria a relatively common symptom of a lack of oxygen?

FWIW, I am not anti NDE. I’d love it if they proved to be true, I just don’t want to put faith in something science may disprove.
