I cut him some slack because first, he’s actually out there and producing and even if I disagree with him at times (a lot) there are also things I agree with. Not with being negative about the Pope per se, of course. But I think that once we get conditioned to think somebody is ‘negative’ that we start looking for negativity—to prove our point, of course—and we see it even when it isn’t there.
Plus I think that a lot of times when we think something is going wrong, we tend to harp on it, especially if we think somebody is responsible, and if we just point it out enough, they’ll finally fix it. So we tend to just keep going on and on and it looks like we’re constantly criticizing somebody every day on every thing, but we’re really just criticizing one or two things done a while ago that just haven’t been addressed yet.
And finally, people can change. Maybe things that seemed really important before COVID—19 aren’t so important. Maybe the Pope’s strengths that Dr. Marshall didn’t see so much ‘before’ are now being made evident; maybe both the Pope and Dr. Marshall are going to get epiphanies, maybe they will see more clearly. Could turn out that the people like Dr. Marshall who are quicker to see ‘problems’ could be equally quick to see ‘positive things’. So again, I’m open to the idea that these times will really show the ‘gold’ in the Pope, as it were, and will lead to great things, and that Dr. Marshall will be one of the first to recognize this. Think what a great force they’d be together ‘on the same page’.
