I’m sorry I just don’t know of anyone who teaches solo Traditio.
I think he’s referring to trads who uphold the traditions of the Church to the extreme (sedevacantists, etc.). Even then the traditionalist movement as a whole doesn’t fall under the “Solo Traditio” umbrella, and labeling us with a name like one of Martin Luther’s heretical Five Solas without such a distinction is disingenuous. One can engage in the TLM and pre-Vatican II practices and still be in good standing. The same cannot be said for someone who upholds Sola Fide.
I’m pretty traditional myself, appreciate the TLM, spend most of my arguments against the liberals.
The two immediate prior popes were the best!

But I’m seeing a trend for Catholics to give attention and money to internet “ministries” not in union with the Church, unlike EWTN, Catholic Answers, and many others that are. I don’t say National Catholic Reporter and OnePeterFive are identical. But they both are on one side of a line.

I didn’t say they were all bad, or all alike. As Magdalena Rita points out, I invented the term Solo Traditio. Guilty as charged for egotism.

But there are organizations in union with the Church. It’s slanted to mention EWTN and CA for “in union” and OnePeterFive as not, and not also mention the FSSP, ICKSP, Canons of St. John Cantius, Una Voce, etc. Not every trad group is a OnePeterFive, just how not every non-trad group is a National Catholic Reporter, and there are trads who dislike OnePeterFive as there are non-trads who dislike National Catholic Reporter.

My slant was not intentional. I endorse all the groups I bolded, have visited some of them, follow some on internet. (Una Voce I occasionally get annoyed with, for quoting borderline sources).

True. There are similarities, but also differences in emphasis, different degrees. Sometimes people who are labeled, or label themselves as “Trads”, contradict each other.

Likewise with Sol Scriptura supporters. Similarities, and differences.

Then I’m not sure what you mean then by a trend. There are loud people on the internet who will vocalize their support for radical groups, but there are quiet trads who don’t. They don’t like Taylor Marshal, OnePeterFive, Holy Family Monastery, etc., and don’t donate to their money to such groups. I personally follow a few traditional blogs and the like, and I’ve never sent them a cent, although they occasionally draw my attention to something I do give money for (saturnos for seminarians, a helmet for a Swiss Guard, a seminarian needing help with tuition and ordination vestments, etc.). It’s definitely a range.

One Peter Five is a totally orthodox Catholic blog. To compare them with the National Catholic Reporter, which is extremely liberal in my opinion, does a great injustice to Steve Skojec and his staff. If anything, One Peter Five is the total opposite of the National Catholic Reporter.

Are they affiliated with a diocese? Of course not - it’s a Catholic blog run by a Catholic layman. There are innumerable Catholic blogs run by laymen which are orthodox in content.

This is their latest post, which is on music:

Taylor Marshall and One Peter Five are good but the third one is sedevacantist. Caveat lector!

Seriously, I remember someone tried to give me sedevacantist literature from HFM. They twist the words of Scripture and the Saints for their own ends. HFM shouldn’t even be mentioned imo.

But none of them have the backing that CA and EWTN have, which was what was under discussion:

I used to read 1P5, but they’re a bit too inflammatory for my tastes.

I wouldn’t call 1P5 inflammatory, probably very conservative imo. Steve always tries to post good stuff to balance out all the negative things we hear. Some of the comments might be but Steve and a few others moderate the comments. I’ve seen him shut down threads and/or delete posts, maybe not as fast as here but he still does. In fact, a few years ago he thought about taking away the comments box. Everyone (especially me) pleaded with him to keep the comments, which he did, and now has this:

Really? Wow. I didn’t know that about TM. Do you have a link so I can look at it?

I’m not talking about the comments, I’m talking about the articles. I can’t remember what exactly they wrote that made me stop reading it, and not everything was as bad as what I read, but after that I haven’t returned.

Besides CAF, I read The Remnant, One Peter Five, LifeSite News, The Catholic Thing, The Way (the archeparchial newspaper of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia) and occasionally the National Catholic Register, which is affiliated with EWTN. And of course, I love The World Over with Raymond Arroyo (would like to meet him in person one day).

I used to follow 2 other blogs but stopped following them because of sedevacantist comments from other bloggers.

TM just really doesn’t understand the Eastern Rites.

He’s not against them as much as he doesn’t understand them.

While I’ve seen some places where he misrepresented Eastern theology, the place where I’ve seen him the most vocal was about the Roman Rite adopting Eastern Practices, when our theology & liturgical development both differ.

It’s really sad that 50+ years after VII most RCs are still ignorant of the Eastern Catholic Churches. In contrast, the SSPX priests I’ve met know at least the basics of the Eastern Catholic Churches (which I posted on another thread).

I don’t think Vatican II has anything to do with it.

The fact is, the % of Eastern Catholics is very tiny Worldwide and the % in the West is also very tiny.

Until YouTube, a Catholic could spend his entire life without ever seeing the inside of a Eastern Catholic Church or seeing a Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgy.

Afterall, there are more Latin Masses available in most Western Countries than many particular Eastern Catholic Churches.

I mentioned VII because the very last document of VII was Orientalium Ecclesiarium (Decree on the Eastern Churches). Most people have at least heard of Sacrosanctum Concilium and Lumen Gentium but are in the dark re OE.

How do you know OnePeterFive is orthodox? How do you know NCR is not? (Many of NCR contributors have advance degrees in Theology).

What’s your measuring stick?

There are far, far better apologist/commentators than either of these contentious souls. I pay no attention to either of them.
