How could you possibly know what the kid at Maxwell’s school is planning to perform? 🤔

Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the club members dressed as women was tradition until 2018

Men dressing up as women is part of entertainment. Classics are Flip Wilson as Geraldine:

Tyler Perry has made a jillion as Madea. Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis in “Some Like It Hot”

Monty Python, Mrs Doubtfire and Tootsie, on and on. Theatricals can simply be fun.

There is no doctrine about men playing women on stage.

I should clarify and I apologize that I was unclear. When I said “disrupt”, I didn’t mean to heckle the live show. I meant that the OP, and or his parents and possibly other parents, would attempt to stop this from happening by talking to the principal ahead of time. But, like I said, I think he would be villified.

What do you think about the Vatican’s comments linked in post 25?

The Vatican link is throwing up a 502 Bad Gateway error. If you can repost a readable link, we can comment on it.

OK, the Vatican article link came up, so I will comment on it:
  1. The Vatican article concerned a Catholic university that was hosting an annual drag show. A group of Catholic alumni had complained. There is no Catholic school involved here.
  2. The Vatican response came after reviewing material of past shows at the University and concluding that the material was inappropriate and mocked Church teaching. There is no record of past shows here, the school talent show is not a drag show event but only involves one high school student performing age-appropriate drag, there is no suggestion that he will be mocking Catholicism or religion, and again, this isn’t a Catholic school.
I don’t think the Vatican response in a particular case of Catholic school making it an annual tradition to host a drag show, where a group of alumni were complaining about the show for some time, can be applied to every single instance of a person dressing as opposite gender for a public entertainment.
Context is everything when it comes to judgments about entertainment or clothing.

That’s still a small sample size.

You can find small groups of people doing nearly anything so it’s not reliable.

Somebody posted links but said links were insufficient for you.

If you are asking MY opinion, then it’s inappropriate for many reasons but I’m not going to type out a 10,000 word response. Here are some brief points.
  1. I already said that it is the continued moral degradation of society.
  2. It is also offensive to women and to womanhood. Women and femininity should not be mocked.
  3. In this day and age where these high school kids are being taught that there dozens (maybe over a hundred by this point according to some) of genders which they can freely choose to adopt, do we really need to encourage/allow drag performances just to further muddy the waters and drag down our standards even further?
  4. It is part of an ongoing & sustained attack on the values of family. I believe this to be such a big problem. If we continue to allow gender to be mocked, removed, viewed as unimportant or something that you can just “identity as” then it gradually wears away at the family unit. This is already happening. As Sr Lucia warned “The final battle between the Lord and the reign of Satan will be about marriage and the family”.

My family (husband, child, cousins, siblings, aunts, uncles, etc) have a beach week each year. We even have a few gay people in the crowd. For fun, we dress up and do skits, usually mocking others who are at the party. Then those being mocked get a chance to return the favor. We make fun of ourselves and others based on how they look, how they conduct themselves, how they speak, what their attitudes are, etc etc. It is a blast and everyone enjoys it and we laugh all night. And yes, it is not unusual that we have men dress as women, and women dress as men while we are all goofing off…

I think some people on this forum really do need to lighten up.

Do me a favour please.

Firstly let’s remember what we are discussing, a school light hearted yearly assembly where school children are invited to put on acts to entertain their friends.

Okay, got that.

Now reread the 4 points Newhills, has put on his latest post.

Unbelievable

Try watching the video in post 38.
We’re not talking about friendly fun dress up skits.
If that’s a PTA president performing that for elementary students and he thinks that’s fine and appropriate, then the world is pretty weird!

Not something that I would be teaching the children in my family to do.

Yes, we agree. Children are being encouraged to put on a drag performance for other children. It is indeed unbelievable.

Oh. I see. I guess we have families with different senses of humor. A little self-deprecating humor is always a good skill to have in life. I’ve always taught the kids in my family not to pick on people who are different from them due to disadvantage or adversity. However, if Uncle Larry always wears a Hawaiian shirt regardless of where he’s going, that is fair game to tease him about. And he loves it.
