I understand the reasons behind the pontiff’s decision to allow it to be used, to try to heal some wounds a small poputaltion of the faithfull felt when it’s use stopped and to reconnect with the SSPX.
The 2007 SP intended to benefit everyone in/of the Latin Rite.

And those other reasons would be?
Because it’s awesome; because it’s an inescapable part of the Church and Church history and the formation of the saints. Like a previous poster mentioned, he brought it back for everyone in the Church because it’s a treasure, not just to appease a few old traddie die-hards. (I know those aren’t the exact words you used. ;))

Below are two links I found on Google which might help. Might also want pick up The Spirit of the Liturgy by the Holy Father. I personally haven’t read the entire book, just excerps online. But you could do that via Google or just thumb through it next time you’re at the bookstore or library to get an idea.

No doubt an element, but healing fractures etil part of the reason by this quote
This was especially the case in countries where the liturgical movement had provided many people with a notable liturgical formation and a deep, personal familiarity with the earlier Form of the liturgical celebration. We all know that, in the movement led by Archbishop Lefebvre, fidelity to the old Missal became an external mark of identity; the reasons for the break which arose over this, however, were at a deeper level. Many people who clearly accepted the binding character of the Second Vatican Council, and were faithful to the Pope and the Bishops, nonetheless also desired to recover the form of the sacred liturgy that was dear to them.

I think I remember reading somewhere in your posts you drew comics, or collected them, or there was some connection with you and comics somehow.

Makes sense, because you have a natural talent of stripping away the unnecessary and getting right to the bottom line 👍

:p:p:p

They were all there to celebrate Mass.

I couldn’t believe the priest concerned saying directly to the Bishop, basically ‘‘I’m outa here’’ then walking out

He obviously has a lot of sway with the congregation.

From the first mutterings he should have taken control of the situation.

That’s of course if the agenda was to celebrate Mass.

He had another, point scoring agenda.

In my opinion.

Not a very dignified spectacle however you look at it.

Dramatic footage of a trendy bishop being booed by Mass-goers

In Normandy, a modernist Catholic bishop’s attempts to remove an orthodox parish priest have provoked an extraordinary outburst of fury from parishioners.

Mgr Christian Nourrichard, Bishop of the Leftist diocese of Evreux, has booted out Fr Francis Michel from the church of Saint-Taurin, Thiberville, where he has had an outstandingly successful ministry for 23 years. The bishop favours instead one of those team ministries where, as in England and America, the role of the priest is largely replaced by that of self-obsessed lay “ministers”.

On the feast of the Epiphany, January 3, the bishop arrived to celebrate Mass in Thiberville dressed in one of those disgusting rainbow chasubles favoured by Magic Circle clerics everywhere. As he haughtily explained his plans, some of Fr Michel’s supporters completely lost their rag…

WOW
At first I think that such reverent people should not have been acting this way at Mass, but then I think of Our Lord turning over tables at the Temple and I think they were justified. Watch the video, what stuck with me was the mother going up to the altar, grabbing her son the altar server, and walking out the door.

I thought you guys would have a lot to say about this 🙂
I also thought of our Lord in the Temple… it’s sad to see people not supporting their local bishop, but then when these interior motives are put into effect, it’s sad to see how they are not in accordance with Rome and the Holy See. There is SO much division within the Church and it’s leaders, it’s sad. 😦

Where I live, there are rogue priests that ARE allowed to change the liturgy, that make the mass “FUN” for everyone and do not follow liturgical processes. I sent a letter to the local bishop, which parishes in particular are being mislead by rogue priests. I don’t know if this is right to do, but I couldn’t take it anymore. When a priest states that it’s the Catholic Church’s fault there is division and why we have protestants today, and continues on to say that we should allow the sacraments to protestants and allow them to receive communion, it makes a man want to throw him out of Church… as Christ did with the market people in the Temple, turning tables and raising His voice.

I wrote a letter to the bishop concerning this and I hope there will be repercussions to this behavior. I thought the Catholic Church was supposed to have one teaching, one way of doing things, one Holy Way, but I guess not. I’m FAR from being a holy person, and I know that men of the cloth get tempted so much more than the lay people by the devil. We must pray for these men! Pray for PRIESTS and Bishops!!

Was I wrong in doing this? Is it wrong of me to want replacements, more traditional priests who follow what the Holy See asks of us?! Is this something that I need to forget and pray about?

Please, if anyone can answer me, it would be AWESOME! Thanks.

I am truely wondering were tradtionalist on this site are coming from. Your are taking glee from the disobediance of the bishop? :eek:I thought you were all about pre-vatican II when the obsuluted obediance to ordinary wasn’t questioned.
The ordinary has the right to remove a priest at any time for any reason. His decision is to be resprected, disagreement handled in a civil way.
These threads that attack our ordinaries, take glee in thier falure are sinful and the work evil withinn the church.

Peace,

I’m assuming that you mean absolute obedience & you’ve been absolutely misled if you believe that pre-Vatican II Catholics would have chosen to obey a Bishop who wouldn’t obey the Pope. Our allegiance was first, to the Holy Father…then to the Bishops & priests. The main difference between then & now, is that the hierarchy of the Catholic Church was loyal to the Holy Father. They really believed in his infallibility in matters of faith & morals. Can you imagine??

You wold say then that
The Pope is the visible source of unity in the particular Churches which comprise the universal Church
True false question fro the catichism.
The answer is false
886: “The individual bishops are the visible source and foundation of unity in their own particular Churches” (LG 23). As such, they “exercise their pastoral office over the portion of the People of God assigned to them” (LG 23), assisted by priests and deacons. But, as a member of the episcopal college, each bishop shares in the concern for all the Churches (Cf. CD 3).
The faithful are to listen to thier first teachers, the ordinary of thier diocese.
The Pope is first amoung equals. the difference between then and now is the absolute power tht the pope was given before and after, the coligiant nature of the higheracy.
Also form Lumen Gentiun, as you know is the constitution of the Church
(14) Therefore, the Sacred Council teaches that the Bishops by divine institution succeed to the place of the apostles, (15) as sheperds of the Church, and he who hears them, hears Christ, and he who rejects them, rejects Christ and Him who sent Christ.
For me, I’ll listen to my ordinary and for you, maybe you should reconsider, calling the Sheperds of the Church disloyal.

Peace,
FAB

You’re not wrong at all, but very courageous! I would love to send a letter to the Bishop, but I am not so sure he would even listen 😦

You are right, it is wrong to disobey a bishop any any way or form, UNLESS he is going against the Catholic Church’s teachings. As for this bishop in particular, we see him trying to destroy what Vatican II made CLEAR that the Latin rite was to remain the priority, NOT the vernacular, which is what this bishop was trying to remove from his parishes. This is not correct because the Vatican teaches just the opposite. Benedict XVI restated in a few letters to encourage the Latin Mass, at LEAST once a month, and that all seminarians looking into the priesthood need to learn Latin. Why do you think some seminaries study for 7 years? I bet you didn’t even know that.

Again I agree that the bishop should not have been treated that way, but the people should have went to a higher post and took their complaints there, rather than before Mass. (and during I may add…)

God bless you on your path to Christ. 🙂

It’s about revealing what’s truly going on behind closed doors. So if we are to obey what ever the bishop says, even if it is morally wrong and goes against what OUR Catholic Church teaches, we must stand by the bishop? That’s truly a sad comment.

These rogue bishops don’t agree with the Holy See, they don’t even WANT to follow what the Holy See says and do what ever is in their own personal agenda. This is not correct and I wish there would be MORE videos such as this so as to reveal the kind of division these new MODERNISTS are doing to our WONDERFUL Traditional Catholic Church!

Benedict XVI said in an encyclical that it’s not quantity the Church needs, but quality. This quality he speaks of is an obvious statement. You don’t even have to read between the lines to understand this one.

Vatican II allowed mass in the venacular as part of the reforms it made. It is the ordinary form of the mass, which means it is the prefered form of the mass, the same as an ordinary minister, priest or deacon to distribute communion and the laity being the extraordianry minister, use to be limited if the ordinary minister is present. The TLM is called the extraordinary form of the mass. His Holiness is only encouraging the use TLM and then only once a month. doesn’t seem to be pushing any great come back of the form.
There is no evidence that the bishop was going against Catholic teaching any disobediance to him is in error.
The normal course of study for seminarians over 7 years does not usually include the study of Latin. My understanding is that it is an elective in most cases.

Rogue bishops is a matter of opinion, since the majority of the 2200 bishops at Vatican II voted for the reforms and they are church law, in your view then they were all modernist, since the reforms substancially changed the church.
Perhaps what you see as rogue is your own misunderstanding of the reforms and listening to your bishop is what is in order.

Vatican II allowed mass in the venacular as part of the reforms it made. It is the ordinary form of the mass, which means it is the prefered form of the mass,
The primary language of the Ordinary Form is still Latin. The vernacular was allowed, and in most places has become the norm, but Latin is still the language of the Latin Church.

I’m sorry. I follow Rome and the Holy See. Not rogue bishops. If they are in fault, I won’t jump off the bridge because everyone else is. Hope you survive the fall. God bless.

Latin is the language of the church yes, the use of the venacular is part of the reforms, the OF was always ment to be translated into a many languages, not to be said only in Latin.
Perhaps a parallel. The original language of the bible is Greek. Is the English version you may read any less valid?

The vernacular is an indult. The Mass of Paul VI was promulgated in Latin.

Vatican II did not create today’s ordinary form.

And it is one of two valid forms of the Latin Rite.

Preferred? That’s a personal term.
The TLM is called the extraordinary form of the mass. His Holiness is only encouraging the use TLM and then only once a month.
Not so. Encouragement is for both forms on a daily basis in all parishes.
The normal course of study for seminarians over 7 years does not usually include the study of Latin. My understanding is that it is an elective in most cases.
Elective? It is Canon Law #249 for all priests to be fluent in Latin.

The Church says you are to follow the teaching and instruction of your Bishop, they share in authortity with the Pope.
Once again from Lumen Gentium “(14) Therefore, the Sacred Council teaches that the Bishops by divine institution succeed to the place of the apostles, (15) as sheperds of the Church, and he who hears them, hears Christ, and **he who rejects them, rejects Christ **and Him who sent Christ”
