This issue of “dress codes” for the clergy always makes my blood boil.
I am a firm believer in that if you CHOOSE religious life, that’s what it IS ! It’s your LIFE that you dedicate to God and His church. You LIVE it from the moment you wake up until the moment you go to bed. EVERY DAY…not just on Sundays.
If you are a priest, brother etc, and have taken VOWS, you should DRESS accordingly…a cassock, or a collar, etc…not hip jeans and tshirts. If it’s your designated day off from “duty” from your assignment, then OK…I doubt anyone has a problem with that.
SHOW the world that you are a religious and DRESS LIKE ONE.
Not doing so shows (to me ) that your vocation is on an hourly basis…like a 9 to 5 job. IF you are sincere about your vocation you need to wear cleical attire.
I am fully aware that sisters and nuns are not “clergy” but the same applies to them as well. The traditional HABITED orders are getting the vocations…not these plain clothed, dancing in the sanctuary, pants wearing, liberals who don’t want to be recognized for their vocations. It’s ridiculous.
When was the last time you saw the pope wearing jeans and a t-shirt ???
Religious dress for clergy worked for hundreds of years. It’s high time it was brought back and made mandatory.
