Can you judge a book by its cover?
Why not try reading it? “Shrug”

Yes, we have a dress code, and yes I think it’s needed. Our dress code is about modesty, and says nothing about casual wear. Everything from shoulders to knees (inclusive) to be covered for both men and women. And nothing too tight or revealing. That means no shorts, but doesn’t exclude jeans, flip flops and other casual clothes.

I remember a long time ago Archbishop Chaput (who is on the conservative side) said that God doesn’t mind if we show up casually dressed, so long as we are not immodest. There is a big difference between the two.

Nothing wrong with a hoodie unless it’s not long enough to cover yoga pants. 😆

Men seriously, why not a sleeveless dress that comes to the knees or below? I am not talking about a tank top but a sleeveless dress that comes out to the shoulders.

It’s easy for sleeveless to be gaping open for people to get an eyeful of undergarment, exposed flesh, etc. Then too sleeveless menfolk aren’t the best look.
It’s just more clear to nix sleeveless altogether. Could you throw on a shrug or cardigan?

As a man, why would I wear a sleeveless dress when full length gowns are available?

🤣

Just make sure we can see your armpit hair!

I always wear a shrug with something sleeveless but gave no objection when shoulders are covered all the way.

Ew. Looks like he’s got “Buckwheat” in a head-lock.

Who cares what other people wear to Mass?
The Church does…in fact there are rubrics for attire for those acting as an Extraordinary Minister, there are points in the Catechism that when we go through the doors into the church we are crossing a threshold and our attitude should reflect how we are now approaching the altar of God.
That would include dressing in such a way that would illicit lustful thoughts for some.
Consciously dressing in such a way as to draw attention to oneself instead of giving all our attention to the real presence.
Becoming a stumbling block, putting another in a position of the sin near occasion of lust.
These are serious things.
Yoga pants?
They are one step away from what we used to call panty hose.
I am still amazed at some parents allowing their young daughters wear certain types of attire.
Men should be held to the same standard.

Men should be held to the same standard.
Years ago, The Remnant had an article by Professor Brian McCall on modesty for men in which he said the same thing, i.e. men have an obligation to dress modestly. (It also had a stunning picture of Cary Grant. 😊)

Honestly, I think that if men dressed more modestly women would be more inclined to do so as well.

I’m all for reverting to a time where gentleman wore suits and fedoras! :cowboy_hat_face:

I usually try and go to morning mass daily. There are a few “regulars” who are ladies, and there is something so genuinely reverent and uplifting to see some of these both older and younger women with veils…it just seems to bring to mind a different time, a time of reverence and respect we do not see too often these days.

Does your parish have a dress code? Should it?
Leggings denotes legs…which used to be worn under another garment so that the body was covered from somewhere around the knees up.
Exercise pants, leggings, clothing so tight that as Robin Williams noted of ballet dancers “so tight you could tell what religion they were” are not proper attire.
Especially on very young girls, in church.
Just my two cents…which is worth about nothing now’a’days.

And I’ve expressed my opposite opinion up thread, so hopefully we can “let it go”?

I am not familiar with your post.
I do not know what you mean about “let it go”
Am I not allowed to have an opinion?
Or is there something specific about my opinion that is wrong?

Talk about providence, Ascension Presents just released this today…serendipitous I would say.

We spent about 1/4 of this thread going over leggings.
Ok, and because I did not read that particular part you thought it best to admonition me?

Couldn’t have just ignored my comment, or perhaps you think you’re the end all authority on what can be posted?

Couldn’t have just read over my post and went on with your merry way?

As we say round these parts,

If you can’t say something good, don’t say nothing at all…
