Didn’t say those things were ok. We don’t see people wearing those things to Mass around here, though. (Flip flops in the summer, maybe, but frankly, that doesn’t bother me.)

Yeah, I’d rather see somebody wearing jeans than wearing something flamboyant. I just think Mass is somewhere people should dress humbly, not to impress and draw attention.

Well, not usually unless they’re directly in front of me and it’s tie-dye with words all over the back. Even if I’m not distracted by it though, it’s still my opinion that flashy patterns are inappropriate for Mass.

I agree except I believe every wiman has the right to bare arms. I always wear a shrug with a sleeveless dress though.

Probably, but my wife does.

Edit: So does my daughter, but she’s 2 months old, so might be easier for her too.

Mass in Hawaii would be a nightmare for some folks here…🤣

I was in Florida and everyone wore colorful clothing…

I dig Hawaiian shirts. One of those and a nice pair of jeans is alright for me…It is the young girls and even older lasses who seem to forget they are crossing the threshold when they enter the interior of the church, and it is more important to show respect to the mass and our Lord than to appear in a manner, shall we say, less conservative.

I cannot speak for women, but as a semi healthy male an attractive lady dressing in a manner as to accentuate her feminine wilds does cause me to go to confession a bit more…and to really try harder to concentrate on mass.

Which is why we are there in the first place.

Some countries have dress codes because people tend to go to Mass wearing shorts, slippers, spaghetti strap blouses, baseball caps, sleeveless shirts, etc. Similar codes are even promoted by some Catholic schools, even those that have uniforms, and for haircuts, the use of jewelry, etc.

Some examples:

The problem is that there is increasing pressure from various groups, which is why some have dropped codes, no longer enforce them, or are settling for anything that will encourage people to dress as if they did not come from the beach, bathrooms, or bedrooms.

That’s tragic because the Mass is very important.

We dont have a dress code but our pastor recently and very firmly requested everyone to please be respectful and dress modestly for Mass.

Not sure if the priest in my parish is doing it on purpose but in Summer air conditioning in the church is really strong so either you cover up a bit or you get pneumonia… 🤣🤣
