Actually, I respectfully disagree. Action needs to be taken because what the OP described is a serious offense. If the wedding party broke the law, they can and should be prosecuted. Documenting what happened will prove beneficial.Unless this is the first step in creating a paper trail as a foundation for a change in parish policy (say, instituting a deposit), or if you expect this family to be involved in similar events in the future, I don’t see what this would accomplish. Sounds like effort expended on the OP’s part for no benefit, other than getting it off his chest. If there are any consequences of such a letter, they are not likely to be beneficial, and may well be tedious.
Furthermore, perhaps it will lead to a change in the policy for the parish. Unfortunately, because of the serious infraction of one individual, everyone else has to deal with the rammifications.
