Drive thru Eucharist?

Me too - not because I don’t appreciate good satire, but be aids it is scarifyingly close to the real lack of comprehension and dismissive attitude that some have towards Mass.

AHA, The purpose of satire! And actually Lily, toward the Eucharist also. And perhaps not so much dismissive as unthinking and unfeeling. I haven’t been on for a few days so I took time to read through the comments.

I recognize that we are all on a journey, that Holy Mass and the Eucharist mean different things at different times in our lives, and that our reverence actually increases over time (one hopes). People leaving Mass early is disturbing to the whole community. Certainly there are times when we all need to do so, but the stampede in some communities is pretty dreadful. This behavior is “catching”. It somehow gives permission for others to do the same.

So, taking this to the ridiculous is a way to point out this trend and allow some reflection.

I did vote in the poll, and voted that no one in our community would use a drive-thru for Communion. At least I hope not.

Well, mea culpa. Hopefully I can find a drive thru confessional today. I mean, who has time to wait in that line on a Saturday afternoon?

Line? At your parish there’s a line for confession?? I’m not going there.

I’m sorry if I’m not as learned as you, but I had to Google this term to understand what you meant by it, and I’m sure that many here have never read that essay and don’t understand that it’s a satire. Can you please point out in your OP that you meant this to be satirical??? Or was the “tone” of the post supposed to clue us in???

More and more I’m thinking it’s time for a drive-thru Eucharist. Why should busy people- obviously much busier than the rest of us- have to take so much time out of their Sunday to rush to Mass in time for the Gospel reading or the last half of the homily, sit through all that Eucharistic liturgy, and wait in line for Jesus with the hoi-polloi before they can cut out the side door before the announcements and missa? There should be a drive through option! It doesn’t even need to be manned by a priest or a deacon, an EMHC is fine.
