Drive thru Eucharist?

Well again it was intended merely as a modest proposal. No harm or sacrilege was intended.🙂 Perhaps some can find solace in the increasing number reporting on the modest proposal poll that no one in their parish would use it?

Before this thread is closed, lets evolve it into what the Eucharist really is -

After ordinary bread and wine are consecrated by the validated, ordained Catholic Priest, The Most Holy Eucharist IS the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

When we go up to the altar and the Priest says “the body of Christ”, we reply “Amen”, we do so because we really believe the words Jesus spoke in John Chapter 6 (The Bread of Life Discourse)

52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

Many Disciples Desert Jesus

60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit[e] and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.

68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

This is why I’m Catholic. To whom would I go?

Sometimes I am glad that I’m aware of no CAF member who attends mass at my parish: I would fear to sneeze lest someone call me out here as disrespecting God by daring to blast nose mist in His presence…

Yes, but I doubt, from previous conversations with the OP that they are referring to an essay from the 1700’s.

But maybe. 🤷

I will say, again, that satire belongs in the Water Cooler.

Maybe it’s regional, but where I am a “modest proposal” is a pretty common term for a certain type of satire, without necessary being a specific reference to that essay.

In any case: Now introducing the EZConversion Process! No more of that nasty long RCIA process and staying up late on Easter! This thread is getting more disturbing all the time.

So, according to you someone who converts to Catholicism and does NOT go through the RCIA process should not be considered a Catholic?

Me too - not because I don’t appreciate good satire, but be aids it is scarifyingly close to the real lack of comprehension and dismissive attitude that some have towards Mass.

Of course not! What I don’t like is the people who want to be Catholic without all the inconvenience of study and engaging with her teachings and expectations. RCIA is the most common process for doing that, but it’s not the only one. What I question is the people who treat her as just one more option among many, set up to please them and provide the experience they want.
 
What about the poll results? Any surprises? (Assuming the votes were cast in all seriousness). I had trouble discerning between what I hope would be the case and what I think really would happen. (Is that vague enough?)

The results don’t mean anything.
 
Another vote for “Many parishioners would use it.” Is that reality or cynicism… or “progressive thinking?”
 
Personally, I doubt anyone, even the most poorly catechized Catholic, would use a drive-thru Eucharist! And most people who are thinking about converting to the Church are full of questions that they want answered (even if they don’t raise their hands and ask those questions in RCIA class!) Judging from the number of Catholics I see on this board who ask questions that, with referring to the online Catechism, and just a little bit of inductive reasoning, I’d say that more adult ed would be welcome, not less.

Unfortunately, the kind of people that don’t ask or care also tend not to end up on boards like this.
