No of course it wasn’t intentional, I wasn’t the one implying you were careless!Of course it wasnt intentional. Why would any sane catholic handle the body of Christ carelessly?

Oh my gosh!!Our priest gave a little talk about communion a few months back. And how to accept it. Hands ok, and if you are going to take it on your tongue, get it OUT THERE! He said he quit reaching into a persons mouth when a person bit down before his fingers were out. WORSE, he naturally pulled his fingers back, bringing the persons dentures with him. He had SEVERAL stories.
It is an accident. Desecration is an intentional act and thusly deserve excommunication. But an accident? No, if excommunication were the punishment for all ‘mistakes’ then there would be no one in the Church.I dropped the Holy Eucharist once; but it was picked up by the lady giving me communion and I asked her to give it to me again instead of a new one. So I took it even if it had fallen. I didn’t mind at all, I felt that it was the least I could do to try to make up for my mistake. I didn’t want to refuse Jesus’ body.
I am very sorry that happened to you. I was attempting to give someone communion on the tongue (their hands were at their sides) and at the last minute they moved their cupped right hand up forcefully under mine and knocked the host free. I suspect I looked upset too but I immediately took a half step, bent down, retrieved the dropped host and consumed it. (I do not and I repeat do not “give it to the priest” to consume and to suggest this breaks the rule of taking rather than receiving communion is absurd.)Last Sunday I somehow dropped communion on the tongue while kneeling, fortunately it was caught by the alter server. The Priest was visibly upset and I was embarassed, and to be honest I feel like I have to find another parish because I feel so ashamed to walk in there again. Has this ever happened?
