Archbishop Martin on the Abuse Crisis and Youths Catechetical Needs

Here at the International Eucharistic Congress, as the link says in the beginning, the Eucharist is front and center.

DUBLIN, Ireland, JUNE 13, 2012 (Zenit.org).- While never forgetting the sins of the past, says Dublin’s Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, the renewal of the Catholic Church in Ireland will depend upon the catechetical formation of the youth, and the redirecting of Catholics to the Eucharistic center of their faith.

Here, Hundreds of people, including the clergy, stream into the Prayer Space where there is Exposition of the Eucharist.

Yet, on the sidewalks outside, a pamphlet was being offered which was anti-Catholic teaching. At first, it looked like Catholic teaching on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. But as I read it, it was giving reasons why the Eucharist is not real. The internet is full of this so I wasn’t shocked.

What did upset me was the realizaton that what I was reading were reasons why Americans are not attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Being a very cranky granny, I tore it into shreads.

Basically, this pamphlet was saying that Christ did not mean His really Real Presence in Chapter Six of the Gospel of John. The pamphlet’s author had walked away.

If there is to be a renewal in the Church, Ireland and America, Priests need to preach the Real Presence. Preaching to the choir is a necessity because it is the choir who meets people on the street – like some I have met. People who say they are Catholic but do not go to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Why should they go?
