LOL it wasn’t me. I think that is what you are referring to. I may have issues with your position, but I think things have been pretty tame for a sexual abuse thread…Hmm…interesting. My last two pages of posts are gone. Me thinks there is someone on this thread with issues against me.
These things rarely end with civil discourse…
But no, I would own up to it if it were me.

I’m kinda surprised this thread is still live. I value my account on CAF and this thread is a risky one… I’ve seen threads like this end with the online death of several posters… But honestly, I think this thread has been quite civil. Though shocking and emotional, I think we have done a good job of maintaining discussion without personal attacks. For the most part. Sure a couple have slipped in a passive aggressive manner but people for the most part have been ok considering the subject matter.

Most cases of abuse go unreported. I’m not saying Josh committed further offenses, but just because nothing was reported doesn’t mean nothing happened. As part of their “solution,” Jim Bob and Michelle locked him up unsupervised with his younger brothers. Josh should have been isolated from every child in the family. Whether you want to face up to it or not, giving a known child molester unfettered access to young children is extremely problematic. Just because his known victims were all female doesn’t mean the boys weren’t in danger as well. That’s way I keep urging you to read up on this on your own so you’ll understand the dynamics of it.
As far as his counseling goes, read the police report. In particular, read Michelle’s statement where she said he didn’t receive actual counseling. He helped remodel a house. That is not counseling.
I’m curious as to why you think the example I gave was over-exaggerated. You really need to read up on child sex abuse and the affects it has on its victims. The other three victims have not spoken out so we don’t know how they are handling it. The example I gave is exactly what happened to one of my family members after she was abused. I have other friends and family members who went through similar and even worse experiences. You want to believe that what Josh did wasn’t that bad, but with my family member on whom I based my example, her abuser “only” fondled her. There was no penetration involved. It still nearly ruined her life. Please read up on this.
Again, Michelle’s statement contradicts this. And, please, show me the facts about secular counseling not having a great track record. If you’re referring to the track record that any sort of counseling has with child molesters then you’re absolutely right. What you need to understand, though, is that it’s not the fault of the counseling. You can have the best counselor in the world and the person may still re-offend. You can combine the counseling with more extreme measures like castration and they still re-offend. Please think about that for a minute. Child molesters are extremely difficult to treat effectively and having someone remodel a house for a few months is by no means effective treatment. That’s not a guarantee that Josh will re-offend, but for the sake of his past and any potential future victims, why on earth would you not want to take every possible precaution to try to prevent it?

Being a lawyer doesn’t make her infallible or knowledgeable on every topic. The facts I stated are easy enough to find on your own. I even posted links to them in the other thread on this topic. Like I’ve said numerous times on this topic, though, please don’t take my word for it. Read up on it on your own. Here’s a link to some facts on child sex abuse. Read through it and see what it says. (For the record, though, I think their figure stating that 1 in 10 children will be abused is on the low side, based on other reports I’ve read and anecdotal evidence.)
