I am interested to see the exact wording so that it is not a fake apology like the last one. I have sent him 3 emails requesting and apology. I wonder how many military families emailed him?

**WASHINGTON - **An emotional U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin apologizes for his remarks comparing the actions of American interrogators at Guantanamo Bay to Nazis, Soviet gulags and Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot.

Then McCain and Lieberman up to ‘congratulate’ him for his courage.

Gitmo appology

Some quotes are included…not the whole speach

“More than most people, a senator lives by his words … occasionally words fail us, occasionally we will fail words,” Durbin, D-Ill., said.

"I am sorry if anything I said caused any offense or pain to those who have such bitter memories of the Holocaust, the greatest moral tragedy of our time. Nothing, nothing should ever be said to demean or diminish that moral tragedy.

“I am also sorry if anything I said cast a negative light on our fine men and women in the military … I never ever intended any disrespect for them. Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line to them I extend my heartfelt apology,” Durbin said, choking on his words.

“After reading the horrible details in that memo which characterized the treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo, I then, on my own, my own words, made some characterizations about that memo … I have come to understand that was a very poor choice of words,” he said.

Durbin pledged to “continue to speak out on the issues that I think are important to the people of Illinois and the nation,” but added that he did not mean to diminish the image of the United States in the world.

“I don’t want anything in my public career to detract from my love for this country, my respect for those who serve it and this great Senate. I offer my apologies to those who were offended,” he said.

I suppose we can’t expect much more…

Can anyone just say. I’m sorry, I was wrong! It seems that no one is ever wrong, everyone just misunderstands the real intent.

I agree. Why try to pass the blaim to ‘those offended’ when you are in the wrong. :tsktsk:

Here is the full speech:

In my book it is still not an apology. A sincere apology would clearly state that what he originally said was wrong and clearly out of line. He would say that he is sorry that he maligned the United States and its troops. He would say that he has learned his lesson and will never stoop this low again.

Sen. Durbin never says that the comparisons he made are wrong, he only says he is sorry if someone took it the wrong way. Whoever is handling his damage control is not doing a very good job. An apology like this can be worse than no apology at all.

Imagine coming home late and drunk. Your wife meets you at the door bawling and screaming. You don’t apologize for being insensitve and selfish, you tell her she is too touchy. But to show what a great guy you are, you will say “I’m sorry I upset you.” Believe me you better duck because objects are going to start flying your way.

I think an overblown bag of wind like a Democratic Senator could provide more convincing hot air. He should get back on his medications.

Oh yeah - I apologize if that offended anyone.😃

So let’s see where we are now.

He said when he read about the horrible treatment, he used a poor choice of words. (however, suckers, the comparison was perfectly valid and I feign regret they had shock value. 😃 )

He doesn’t want to demean those in the other regimes.

HEY DICK HERE’S THE REAL THING YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE APOLOGIZING FOR BUT CONVENIENTLY LEFT OUT:

Notice he didn’t say anything about the fact that he horrible OVER-stated the horrible conditions.

In other words, this is not even a retraction, much less an apology. It is a sneaky way to reinforce what he already said that everybody is so mad about.

I guess that’s how you get to be a politician.

I heard much of this on the news. More waffles than the world supply of Aunt Jemima syrup could cover. He never demonstrated remorse for his moronic comparison and the results such as Al Jazerra’s crowing. What he’s sorry about is that someone called the question. It’s the classic scene where Rhett tells Scarlett she’s like a thief who’s not sorry he stole, just very very sorry he got caught.

I can only hope this idiotic behavior is remembered at the next election.

This knucklehead has been getting away with this kind of **** for years. The following remarks indicate that he was not serious about the damage he had done.

“Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line,” the Illinois Democrat said. “To them I extend my heartfelt apologies.”

As a resident of Illinois I have been energized. I will do what I can to assist this goof into early retirement.

That is, “some may believe, because that’s their right to believe any stupid thing they want. I obviously don’t believe my remarks were wrong like you, but I’ll patronize you morons out there because you’re all too stupid to realize that’s what I’m doing and it’ll just make me even more of a hero with the media.”

(I was just practicing my Latin in case the Latin Mass becomes standard again.👋

Is someone who had the audacity to make such a comparison even capable of a real apology outside of a post-lightning strike event? Durbin thinks he used a “poor choice of words”. This is how liberals apologize. They are not sorry about what they did. They are sorry that others are angry at them. If he chose different words to say the same thing he feels he might have been able to fool people better.

AND, I’m sick and tired of McCain. I wish he would switch parties and be done with it.

He switches parties more frequently than the paperwork to make it formal could possibly track.
