Durbin Declines Chicago Archdiocese Award After Global Backlash Over Pro-Abortion Views

I noted on another forum that someone --- it's open to speculation as to who that "someone" might have been --- may have urged him to decline the award, "take one for the team" as it were, and thus make the controversy end, while letting Cupich at least somewhat off the hook. If he declined it, Cupich wouldn't have to lose face, and could send out an at least somewhat edifying letter proclaiming the inviolability of unborn human life, while praising Durbin for his work on behalf of immigrants. Win-win for everyone.

While I cannot find anything wrong in the letter, I can't shake the feeling that I need a shower after reading it in context.
