A Dutch bishop has withdrawn his permission for an ecumenical prayer service to mark “Pink Saturday.”

Bishop Gerard de Korte of Hertogenbosch had originally given permission for the service to take place in the cathedral of St. John, with the proviso that nothing should be said or done that would contradict the position of the Catholic Church regarding homosexuality. However, after hearing protests from the faithful the bishop reversed his decision. The level of protests, Bishop de Korte said, indicated that “the good relations within the religious community is at stake.”

The “Pink Saturday” prayers service will be held on June 22 at a nearby Protestant church.

Well done to the local faithful who stood up to this!

I’m surprised that there’s enough faithful Catholics left in the Netherlands to make such an impact.

The situation there is dire.

Glad it won’t be held in a Catholic church. It’s a shame it was considered at all to begin with.

Sounds like the laity had actually had a better grasp of Catholic teaching than the bishop 👍

I agree and it’s sad to see the Netherlands fall away from the Church may God raise more Catholics in the Netherlands

It’s a sad situation where those with Same Sex Attraction feel they are not welcome in the Church. The issue is seems that many want to be in the Catholic Church only if they will accept also their gay marriages as legitimate and be given the nod to have intimate relations with same sex persons.

Our Church had a gay outreach ministry and at one of the meetings our priest said "You are all MOST welcome in our Church and we pride ourselves on being an “equal opportunity Church” in the sense all are called to chastity who are not married. That include gay people, singles, widowed and don’t forget about me too, a priest.

It’s not an easy road and a cross to bear. We don’t recognize gay marriage as valid as most of you know but you are our brothers and sisters in Christ and we welcome you and we are all sinners." We offer Sacraments to you etc etc you get the drift.

We had many from that small group join our Church and two active as cantors.

They apparently like the priest and felt his welcoming and warm spirit, and loved it’s an equal opportunity celibacy rule!~

I am glad this Bishop nixed Pink Saturday as we can’t compromise on Church teachings as they come from God and the Holy Spirit who is with us until the end of the age.

Mary,

Mary,
Pretty much.

A song that has been widely played in Catholic circles these past twenty years or so includes the line, “All are welcome in this place.” Cardinal Francis George once archly remarked, “Yes, all are welcome in the Church, but on Christ’s terms, not their own.” Real love both includes and excludes; real love is both tolerant and intolerant.

👍

(Well, I assume you meant chastity but I don’t mean to nitpick.)
