Light of the East is back on EWTN, and at a reasonable hour too.

There is also a Maronite program called Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon.

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one one not wanting to stay up until 3am, 4 eastern.

They usually bring the series out in conjunction with Advent and Lent. I think it’s an excellent series. It looks like it was scheduled in the US Wed/Th. this week.
There is also a Maronite program called Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon.
An introduction to the Maronite rite of the Church in America with interview of pastors and parishioners from various Maronite parishes throughout the Midwestern US, speaking favorably about their rite and their Catholic faith.
Looks like this was on earlier today in the US, 3:00 AM and 6:00PM ET

Funny thing, I was just thinking today I should pull up the grids and see if there was anything of interest to us coming up.

I know I enjoy both of these programs and the decent hour that they are on also.

Great news! I am happy to see Eastern Catholics getting a bit more programming, and at a better hour. I may consider writing EWTN to thank them. If enough people do that sort of thing, perhaps it will continue.

I took my own advice and sent EWTN the following e-mail:

*I just wanted to say thanks for showing some programming on the Eastern Church at a decent hour. I hope it will continue. While I belong to the Western Church, I enjoy learning about my Eastern Brethren and their traditions. I hope to see more of that sort of thing or even some combined Eastern-Western Catholic programming which would be very interesting in showing the universal nature of the Church.

Peace, and God Bless!*

Who knows? It can’t hurt.

You need to ask Santa for a DVR next Christmas!
I definitely need to ask for one. 👍

I bought a copy of the Light of the East series off Amazon used. What I need is a VHS to DVD conversion system for it and a number of other videos I have which never came out in DVD. EWTN ought to reissue the series in DVD. They would definitely have a market for it.

:clapping: !!! This has always been my suggestion here and on another forum. I was about to suggest it and decided not to do so this time, the response here is often so negative. :sad_yes: I’ve always figured if they never hear from us that we appreciate these programs and want more EC programming why would they bother coming up with it? There are plenty of other very vocal Catholics writing them I’m sure.

Is this the address you used? viewer@ewtn.com

It is regrettable that the response to such suggestions is sometimes negative here or elsewhere in Catholic venues. It is also evidence of the very need for such programming and adult catechesis on the East.

I do applaud EWTN for their acknowledgement of the Eastern Catholic Churches in general, and hope they continue such programming.

And remember, like all great ministerial endeavors, they need our support - just like public television. I’ve made a point of sending a little financial support each time I’ve written them about the Eastern Catholic programming.

Also, there have been numerous efforts of some Eparchies to produce educational videos on Eastern Catholicism, our rites and traditions. Perhaps some of this readily produced material can be shared with EWTN for airing. I’m thinking in particular at the moment of a few videos sanctioned by the Ruthenian Eparchy of Parma, many narrated by Fr. Thomas J. Loya (of the “Light of the East” radio / podcast series). Some samples can be found here:

I do too and usually aside from the small amount of actual Eastern programming they have from time to time I think Father Mitch does a pretty good job of,mentioning the Eastern Catholics and their practices now and again.

Great idea! Never hurts, especially now as they have mentioned the need they have at this time for funds and how they have been making cuts.

Right, with the financial crunch everyone seems to be having this might be a suggestion that they might actualluy consider

Here is the response I got from EWTN:
Thanks for your e-mail and comments. We do appreciate hearing from you.

I doubt they write anything more specific to anyone. They have millions of viewers. They received the feedback and it will go to whomever deals with such. We need to continue to speak up. I am sure they hear from LOTS of Latin Catholic.

Agreed. I think some of the things it would be easiest to do would be to have more Eastern Catholic guests on the shows the already have (EWTN Live, Sunday Night Prime, Life on the Rock, etc.). All of those shows are in a format which would easily allow such things. One of the things I would really love to see is a call in show with both an Eastern and Latin Catholic priest to ask questions. They could both give answers from the different traditions, etc.

Oh, and more Dominican Friars would be a good thing too~! 😉 I guess I need to start my own network!

All kidding aside, we are lucky to have EWTN. Thank God for them.

But they like (and in fairness, need) to hear from Catholics with $s and words …

FWIW - you’d likely get a longer response with a corresponding donation. I’ve actually gotten more that just a one-liner from them before on more than one occasion. Not that it was expected or necessary, but it was very nice to get validation that they do in fact care about their Eastern Catholic audience and do take Orientale Lumen seriously.

A show entitled “Russia’s Catholics” will air on EWTN at 5:00 AM EST on Saturday.
An overview of the current state of the Catholic Church and Faith in Russia, including the years of persecution Catholics and Orthodox Christians suffered during the country’s Communist rule.
I don’t know if it will be any good or not but I thought I would share since I saw that it was coming on.

Peace of Christ,

Thank you. I totally forgot to watch it today even tho I posted a reminder about it a couple of days ago 😦 I can’t be up at 3AM tonight to watch it. I have to make artoklasia in the morning before Holy Sat. St. Basil DL. Time to go to sleep… zzzz !
