Hi all, thanks for your suggestion! Would like to say that I have found a Catholic friend living in my area, and we will probably be going for the Mass together!

The Eucharist is the Source and Summit of Our Faith…

The Easter Vigil Mass is the Source and Summit of the Eucharistic celebration. The entire liturgical year flows from and to the Easter Vigil.

It is by far the most important celebration of Mass in the entire year.

If you could only attend Mass once a year, the Easter Vigil Mass would be the one Mass to attend.

Get the point? 😀

If at all possible, get to the Easter Vigil!

That’s great! I hope it works out for you and you get to go to that mass if it is what you desire. 🙂

unfortunately, they schedule it to end pretty late at night, often in a tough part of town…

I’d like it if the church celebrated it in the day time.

Then that’s not called a Vigil, whose significance is that the world was plunged in darkness while waiting for the Risen Lord

Exactly what @melvfe said.

Then it would be an Easter celebration Mass, but it would no longer be an Easter Vigil.

However, they could start it as soon as nightfall comes - so about 6pm - if they wanted to.

What I would wish for is an Easter afternoon Mass. Sunday morning is out because my parents like going to church too and I’m keenly aware of the burden even driving me to the Vigil is.

It should be pointed out that the Easter Mass obligation is fulfilled by either the Vigil or the Mass on Sunday itself. I actually prefer the liturgy of the daytime Mass, with its procession, the Easter Sequence, and beautiful chants. It just seems to flow more smoothly as well.

I also hate driving after midnight.

But then there’s the chanted Exultet at our abbey… well worth the detour.
