At my UGCC Parish all the Sacred Mysteries are done in Ukrainian, except for one DL on Sundays. What exactly is the Priest saying when imparting absolution during Confession? Thanks so much!!

And more to the point, what are the words of Absolution said by the Priest? Are there various forms that are allowed? Or is there only one that is permissible within an UGCC setting? Thanks!

Byzantine usage:
“God it was who forgave David through Nathan the Prophet, when he confessed his sins, and Peter weeping bitterly for his denial, and the sinful woman in tears at his feet, and the Publican, and the Prodigal Son: May that same God forgive thee all things, through me a sinner, both in this present world, and in that which is to come, and set thee uncondemmed before his dread Judgement Seat. So either form, Byzantine or Slavonic, is acceptable?
Both forms are acceptable. The Slavonic form is however, considered a latinization. The Byzantine form is the historical form for the Orthodox. But, like I said both are acceptable.

The Anthology would have the text for confession, including the absolution formula. Its a good book to have, even as a reference.

Is the Anthology the one that includes kneeling in the rubrics and prints optional text in small print, including the Epiclesis?

Kneeling for Liturgy? The Anthology would be the Ukrainian Liturgy for English use. The assumption of the Liturgy is that everyone is standing all the time. Our older books have places where it says “sit”, “stand” and “kneel”. You don’t find that in the Anthology.
But it has all the texts, including the low voice parts of the priest. Even our priests use it at the altar.

Sheptytsky Institute which published it sells it. So do other places such as Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saint Josaphat.

How many of you kneel for confession before the Icon of Christ? I usually bow before the icon. What do others do?

Kneel in the Confessional that has an Icon of Christ. I think it is a good latinization. Why? Because I have heard some people break down sobbing in a Confessional, not exactly something you want to do in public. And I would be terrified of being heard.

No, there is no icon in our confessional. I wanted to do it by the iconostasis but Father said we do it in the confessional if there are other people in the parish.
It does make practical sense, even though its a Latinization. On the other hand, my previous RC parish doesn’t have a confessional.

It’s a persistent latinization supported by peoples’ desires for privacy.
We do it by the iconostasis in the local Antiochian parish. We do it off to the corner near the iconostasis in the local OCA parish and the local Greek parish. It doesn’t matter how many people are there.
