No, I don’t recognize it as being disastrous, but then I only believe in one true church.
i dont hope for a reunion where we have catholic then orthodox, personally i wont call that a union. I hope for a church where each and every local church gathered under it bishop is both catholic and orthodox each with her own rite under her patriarch with a well define and understood concept of primacy.Do you think Eastern Catholic Churches will exist in parallel to Orthodox Churches in the event of a reunion?
That’s a non sequitor. No, I don’t recognize it as being disastrous, but then I only believe in one true church.
On an unrelated note, is there an award given out for stating the obvious? The SSPX would find the Orthodox position unacceptable.
i hear many talking about the first century, but that is where im fearful, the orthodox will not allow the pope to even claim the power many church father ascribe to peter. And that completely misstates the problem. More accurate (said from the standpoint of 1869) would be, “If Pastor Aeternus is promulgated, it will send a message to the Orthodox that we’re not really serious about re-union.”
For this one thing alone (his involvement in such a catastrophic move), Blessed Pius XI cannot command our veneration.
Rome is no mother church nor THE Mother Church which is Jerusalem. Rome could have been a mother church but that never happened thanks to Gregorian Reformations IIRC. I never knew why Rome didn’t let the Gallican Church, the Anglosaxon Church, the Spanish Church or other patriarchates exist unlike the other Churches like Antioch or Constantinople which had some daughter churches.Whos the parent church? Key phrase being Communion with Rome. Thus the parent Church.
The fact that Orthodox Catholics choose to be in Communion with Rome indicates their choice of where they desire to be, as does the above statement. Its not a matter of choice in preference of Latin or Byzantine. One could do this anyway. The issue becomes the communion thus unity of the church.
personally i think it depends on the ‘lens’ you are using, peter was the head of the early church and that headship should continue the latins would say, the greek wont agree or may explain the quotes in a different way. Your ‘for no good reason’ phrase doesnt even cut it.You don’t recognize as disastrous how the doctrines of papal supremacy and infallibility have by their dogmatization been turned into a pair of enormous obstacles in the way of Catholic-Orthodox reunion–for no good reason?
very stong words.It is false.
As that may infer that Pastor Aeternus was promulgated simply to spite the Orthodox, you have a point.Your ‘for no good reason’ phrase doesnt even cut it.

Hey wisely, do you agree with the teachings of the Church Fathers?Rome is no mother church nor THE Mother Church which is Jerusalem. Rome could have been a mother church but that never happened thanks to Gregorian Reformations IIRC.
Umm apparently you have your history wrong here.I never knew why Rome didn’t let the Gallican Church, the Anglosaxon Church, the Spanish Church or other patriarchates exist unlike the other Churches like Antioch or Constantinople which had some daughter churches.
I am unable to read through the article. Can you sum it up in a short cliff notes version? As that may infer that Pastor Aeternus was promulgated simply to spite the Orthodox, you have a point.
That said, we as Catholics should all seek to understand exactly why Pastor Aeternus was written.
Here’s one analysis, for consideration:
Pastor Aeternus in Perspective: Vincent Gasser and John Henry Newman on Papal Infallibility
Why you have another version of history you would like to share? The only question is to the “degree” the postion of Honor holds authority in Rome. Pretty well gone over in the Ecumenical Councils and early church.THE Mother Church
You read the original? Pretty triumphant piece of work to say the least.I am unable to read through the article. Can you sum it up in a short cliff notes version?![]()

It seems we have different definitions of “Mother Church”Why you have another version of history you would like to share? The only question is to the “degree” the postion of Honor holds authority in Rome. Pretty well gone over in the Ecumenical Councils and early church.
First among equals is immediately acceptable by the EO.Need more be said?
Ah I see where you coming from , my apology also.It seems we have different definitions of “Mother Church”
I apologize for the confusion.
True, that’s what they call the Patriarch of Constantinople.First among equals is immediately acceptable by the EO.![]()
Did I embarrass you Peter?
LOL, I’m not so sure it’s obvious. On an unrelated note, is there an award given out for stating the obvious?
