I am struggling with scrupulously and disordered eating, and am not sure if I should receive the Eucharist tomorrow. I‘ve been eating more normally, and am now just a bit underweight, but I’ve been thinking about it and am not sure if I’m in mortal sin or not. I have lingering health problems from when things got bad, but I’ve been habitually avoiding the doctor and have been trying not to gain weight when I might actually need to for my health. I would gladly run to confession before mass tomorrow, but my confessor only wants me to come for confession every two weeks to help control the scruples, and to keep going for communion. Would it be better to go to confession, or to be obedient? Should I receive? I’m completely lost :\ Thank you for any prayers and advice.

No mortal sin! It is not easy to commit a mortal sin. You have to want to cut yourself off from God. That is what full consent and knowledge means!

Those are some heavy crosses to carry.

Don’t avoid the doctor and if underweight then you need to gain enough to be healthy. Being a temple of the Holy Spirit we are to care for our bodies and therefore our health.

Then that is what you do. Obey your confessor. Just look where disobedience got Adam and Eve.

Listen to your priest and do what he says

An eating disorder is a mental health issue, not a sin.

You need to be under the care of your doctor and a therapist.

Listen to your priest and follow his direction. And don’t post here trying to find people who will countermand your priest’s direction.

Obey your priest!!! He is helping you. And I am so proud of you for progressing on eating better!!! That is hard, hard stuff. (Don’t ask me how I know.) Not every day is going to be a success. That’s okay. Maintain your weight and take steps to gain when you can. Please find an OCD therapist if you can. They can help you with the anxieties that assault you both through scruples and through the process of “loosing control” (in a healthy way 😉 ) by gaining the amount of weight you need. You are not alone!! You have already reached out to your priest who sounds extremely wise - offer up to Jesus the anxiety you feel as you entrust yourself to your priest’s wise guidance. Then don’t second guess him. When the temptation arises, offer it to Jesus. It is a beautiful prayer! Have patience with yourself. I’ll be praying for you! Hang in there. Every pound you gain is kicking a life-sucking monster in the teeth - go get ‘em!! :raised_hands:t2:
