How do live with yourself? I thought you only posted hateful things on one or two threads, but now I see you love to do it on as many as you can. I think he’s trying to be funny. Being PC is just not as fun. It’s kind of like using “Papist” or “Uniate” or "Fundamentalist. I hate all three terms, but it conveys a message. If we were Jewish then the rest would be “pagans” I believe. All are rather spiteful in my opinino. I dislike the term “Roman Catholic” very much. We are not Roman Catholic but rather Catholic in the Latin Rite.
I believe that Ecumenisism is being misread by everyone. This doesn’t mean we don’t need to evangelize. Non-Catholic Christians/[including those without proper baptisms] don’t have a free ticket. We are trying to reunite, draw our separated brothers and sisters back into the fold. Fallen away Catholic have much to worry about, since they grew up in the faith and rejected the teachings. I personally believe that if someone is seeking the truth, he will find it. But that is not absolute because, who am I to say they aren’t trying.
Part of the issue is that we are trying to make peace with those at odds, but some or even many Catholics in fear hide behind the Protestant interpretation of ecumenism. It feels safe there. But in fact it’s not safe. It causes a lot of people to stumble and thus we are partly responsible for others falling away or not coming to the truth.

sorry I couldn’t answer before, and I haven’t found the English word for the French “sédévacantiste”, so I’ll try to explain briefly what they are : for them, the “Holy See” ( “sédé-” ) has been “vacant” ("-vacantist" ) since the death of pope Pius XII if I remember well : all the following popes are not really popes for them, because they are heretics : they either initiated Vatican II Council ( which “sédévacantistes” don’t recognize ) or accept(ed) it ; for them, for example, Benedict XVI illegally occupies the Holy See…A what???
They don’t recognize him as the legal head of the Catholic Church, and what made me think you could be one of them is the contents of your first message on this thread, and also the fact that you referred to Benedict XVI as “Ratzinger”, and it is how “sédévacantistes” speak about him : since they don’t recognize him as pope, they will not use the expression “the pope” or the name he has chosen as pope ( Benedict XVI ) but his former name, Ratzinger, without his first name or his former “title” ( Cardinal ) which, moreover, can be very rude, aggressive in French, it depends on the context …
In fact I don’t know if they are considered as Roman Catholics by the Catholic Church : can you be a Catholic if you don’t recognize the elected pope as the legal ( lawful ) head of the Catholic church ?
Protestants don’t recognize papal authority as a system ( we don’t recognize the principle of it ) but for us any elected pope IS the lawful head of the Catholic church, so when we speak about him we either say “the pope” or “Benedict XVI” ; we will use his former name ( “Joseph Ratzinger” or “Cardinal Ratzinger” or "Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger ) only when referring to something he said / wrote/ did BEFORE he was elected as pope, and so do some French Catholics …
Sédévacantistes agree with the principle of papal authority, but for them Benedict XVI is not the “right person in the right place” …
Something you said after I asked you this question showed me you are not among them : you said something like “The Pope never commits heresy” or something like that … for them the pope does commit heresy, he IS heretical, that is why … he isn’t the real pope …
I don’t know if “sédévacantistes” exist in your country …

For the first group I don’t think so because it seems to be specially devoted to Saint Joseph, I haven’t noticed this in “sédévacantistes” …and this first group seems to be opposed to “Opus Dei”, I haven’t noticed that either, but of course when I landed on their site ( by “chance” … ) I didn’t read everything …
the second group you mentioned speaks about a “hostage pope”, Gregory ( I don’t remember the number ) I haven’t seen that either : it seems THIS group has “another” pope … on a French sédévacantiste site I read about a Peter II, they didn’t give him the title of pope, but some of the other titles generally used for the ( real ) pope, which is a bit confused, maybe they consider him as the next pope ??? I don’t really know, and not all “sédévacantistes” speak about him : for some it seems there is no pope at all …( and not an “alternative” one … )
maybe there are several groups of “sédévacantistes”, it is a bit difficult for me since I’m a Protestant ; I try to have good relations with Catholics but the usual type of Catholics you know … that’s already enough, and since sédévacantistes hate Protestants ( it’s obvious on their sites ) I don’t really feel like approaching them … but they also hate the pope it seems, and all the Catholics who “follow” him : for them the whole Catholic Church has gone astray, THEY are the only true Catholics …
On forums they are usually over-represented and very aggressive both with Protestants and other Catholics ( I mean the ones who consider the pope as the legal head of the Catholic Church ), I feel if they could they would burn us together at the stake … ( except that, maybe, the UNO would prevent them from doing so by arguing that burning heretics would accelerate global warming
…)But well I didn’t know the two groups you mention, so it means you also have some “special” Catholics in your country …

The original poster of this thread abandoned it (and probably unsubscribed) at post 54: “I am done and finished with this thread.” His account is under review. He managed to avoid all the questions posed of him that really demand honest answers. Since then, it’s been nothing but fightin’ words. I don’t see why this thread has to remain open.
