Have we found any of the edges of the universe?

Do we have any idea in which direction the original Big Bang Was?

nope, still looking, maybe when my keys, glasses and cell phone turn up I will find whatever else we are looking for in as well
or we could just ask St. Anthony
 
Every description I’ve heard of the big bang made it sound like it was an extremely rapid expansion in all directions, placing the original location somewhere near the center of the universe, but a lurking astrophysicist might correct me:p

EDIT: It seems like you’re actually asking in what direction from earth that center point is. In that case, I have no idea.
 
I remember seeing pictures of the edge of the known universe, that could only be seen in infrared. I can’t find the link atm, but it was impressive.

The direction of the big bang? Presumably out the porthole.
 
Ok, so there seems to be some confusion here:

There is the edge of the KNOWN universe, which is how far into space we can see…This means, how far away light has actually reached us from, because as we know, light doesn’t travel instantaneously.

Then there is the edge of the universe…which we have no means to actually discover, assuming the beginnings of the universe were the result of all matter starting from one point and exploding out into infinite space.

Assuming the universe is finite, which is not established, it might be a closed surface, like the skin of a sphere such as Earth. Earth is finite, yet has no “edges.”

It appears to have an edge in time, at the Big Bang. Whether or not it has an edge in space, depends on whether it is closed or open. The observable universe does have an edge that is defined by the speed of light. We can’t quite see that far because the universe was not transparent in its very early stages.

Your question is meaningless. The Big Bang happened ‘here’ for all possible values of ‘here’ in the universe. Remember that at the time of the Big Bang, the entire universe was the size of a sub-atomic particle. Very shortly after the Big Bang it got a lot larger, a period known as “Inflation”. As far as we are concerned, the Big Bang happened everywhere. We are in effect still inside the expanding post-BB expansion.

I think it would be quite amusing if you could go one direction in the universe and eventually end up where you started - kind of like Asteroids. 👍

Exactly. Just because it’s finite doesn’t mean it has edges.

Yeah, that link earlier in this thread amazed me when it explained that we can’t see farther than 14,000,000,000 light years away even if there is something there - because the light that would make what’s out there visible to us has literally not had time to reach us yet!

Maybe you could, but you can’t see it because the light hasn’t yet reached your eyes!!!🙂

Of course, you’d need a pneumatikon soma to even begin the journey.

From what has been posted, it seems that at the present time the universe’s boundary is unknown.

Or, the universe is without limits.

Can math measure a universe without a known boundary?

If the universe is infinite, can our human developed math handle the infinite?

How does that effect the Big Bang?

But, that’s not necessarily true. There is the boundary of the Big Bang. And, no doubt, there is an (outside) edge which delineates where the universe is, today, in its expansion. What the universe is expanding into is, in my opinion, Infinite Being, i.e., God.

In another thread, the poster Yppop believes that there are two levels of Space. The primary Space is on the implicate level and is Infinite Space, or God. The other Space is of the explicate level and is the discrete Space that scientists know and measure. I think this is a very intriguing theory, which seems to permit the maths of the known universe.
