I saw this sign at a church I went to that offers both forms of the Mass recently. I think it gets to the point without going into a lot of detail.

Ooookey-dokey. I will just have to write this one off as a “to each their own” opinion. I definitely have no thing women in burkas. I think your the first person I have every heard say that this type of dress does not detract from their beauty. That is, after all, the intent of the burka.
Actually, I never mentioned a burka. Not all muslim women wear burkas. I’ve seen Muslim women in normal/modest clothes (dresses, skirts, cardigans, jeans, etc) and lovely silk headscarves.
I see no beauty in being forced to dress in a certain way.
In a certain way designed to hide the beauty of the person.🤷
It’s your opinion that their beauty is hidden. It is mine that they radiate beauty. I also think we shouldn’t assume that all Muslim women dress modestly because they have to. I’m sure many want to dress this way because of their faith, just like Catholics or Mormans or other Christians want to dress modestly.

Perhaps that is the whole point of most of us here that would be against a dress code per se. You show more people who to dress appropriately by example then you do by posting dress codes and looking down at people who don’t.

As for those who would like us women in burkas…well they have issues that I can’t speak to🤷
Not sure if you’re referring to me, but I never mentioned the word burka and I certainly don’t think Christian women need to wear burkas. It’s also ignorant to think that all Muslim women wear burkas therefore only the burka=modesty. sigh Moving on. . .

I certainly HOPE that you did not just call me ignorant!

Neither do all Muslim women cover their heads, wear long sleeves, skirts down to their ankles.

Aren’t those Mormons who cover their heads those fundamentalists who marry off their young daughters off to much older men etc?

Why must Catholic women cover their heads to be modest? Your idea of what is modest is not that of many Catholics.

Many Muslim women in moderate Muslim majority countries cover their heads when they marry because their husbands ask them too. Some do when they study in Islamic institutions because they are required too. Yes, some do so voluntarily but all are not necessarily holier than those who don’t. In any case, they and those Mormon women who cover their heads are not role models for Catholics.

Am I alone in wishing that we could have a modesty thread that could still remain consistent with common sense?🙂

You did mention Muslim womens dress. As some Muslim women where anything and everything that non-Muslim women dress, why did you refer to them specifically if not to mention their specific dress? It is all very confusing.

Again you are putting words into my mouth. I NEVER stated that covering a head=the only acceptable form of modesty. I never said Muslims who cover their head are holier. I never mentioned anything about Mormans marrying off their younger daughters to older men. Somehow people are getting way carried away and fired up about a Muslim/Morman comparison. People are bashing my opinion that Muslim women are beautiful with their version of modesty. You don’t have to agree with that opinion and that’s okay. 👍

I must be in the twilight zone today. Nothing I said is confusing. Not all Muslim women wear burkas and nothing I said mentioned burkas. People are making sweeping generalizations about my opinion and now I’m somehow pro burkas and Catholic women wearing headcoverings despite the fact that I never said that. I’m not sure what’s confusing about anything I said? And I have clarified my statement several times. 🤷

Annabelle, I believe in your reading comprehension skills but I’m going to clarify what I said: I said it’s ignorant to assume that Muslim women only wear burkas. I guess you’ll have to determine if that is tantamount to calling you ignorant.

Moving on!

Well since I said nothing of the sort regarding all Muslim women wearing Burkas then I will have to assume that you were NOT talking about me…or you misread my post…

You didn’t say that–someone else did. But you said “As for those who would like us women in burkas…well they have issues that I can’t speak to.” So it’s ignorant to assume all Muslim women wear burkas and to misinterpret what someone says and then say they have issues. Again, I never uttered the word burka nor did I say women should all wear burkas.

This is my last word on the subject but if you want to continue the debate so you get the last word in, I’m fine with that. :
