Effeminate Priests

It seems that celibacy would be as hard or harder for an effeminate priest as a straight priest… think of who the effeminate priest will be living around all the time. Just a thought.

Wow lak611, guess you don’t get around much. Many priests are gay. It’s a safe haven for them since their male to male relationships are less likely to be challenged.
Also where can they wear such flamboyant colorful outfits?
It’s a natural for them.

I don’t thing celibacy is as big a sacrifice for effeminate or homosexual priests.

Celibacy is celibacy whether you’re giving up boys or giving up girls.

And exactly where do you “get around”, to have first-hand knowledge that would back up such an inflammatory statement? What would be a safer haven for male-to-male relationships than an all-male sports team? You know, the showering together, all of that, just like those naughty Greeks and Romans, and we all know what kind of sex lives they had…

All-black street clothes and a Roman collar are hardly “flambouyant”, so you must mean that albs and chasubles are flamboyant attire that would be naturally attractive to homosexuals? Oooo…especially those old-fashioned ones, with all that lace! Perhaps you think that a guy who is willing to sing solo and *a chapella *must be gay, too? Vatican II must have really bummed out the gay priests, what with toning down the vestments and the singing and all.

WHAT RUBBISH! Shame on you!

(I really need to stay off these forums. They make me nuts.)

My pastor is definitely very masculine. He loves sports (especially Notre Dame football, where he went to college), loves playing poker, and drives a convertible. He is just like every other guy, except he is single and chaste. My previous pastor was also very masculine, loved football and golf. I really have never known any priests who were not “men’s men”.
You are lucky. While my current pastor and other priests I come in contact with are all quite clearly masculine in their appearance and how they act, that has not always been the case. And it was disheartening if not repulsive at times.

We had a visiting Franciscan priest who celebrated Mass one Sunday morning. As they were processing out he offered his hand to me. It was a firm handshake from a calloused hand which surprised me in the most wonderful way…

If most firemen sashayed, adopted a lisp without a speech impediment causing it, and spoke in high pitched tones and acted like a 16 year old girl, there would alot less fire fighters. That is the only point here. No little boys want to grow up to be a cop if they watch CHiPs as a kid and Ponch and John were played by Andy **** and Nathan Lane. This really is just a matter of appropriate role modeling if you give it some honest thought.

Actually the first set of such men would likely be dissuaded (perhaps violently so) from becoming fire fighters.

I remember going to this special training session on the liturgy by an expert (a priest) in our diocese. As soon as he opened his mouth I could feel my heart sink. His affected feminine qualities were disturbing – voice/lisp, giggle, the weird walk, odd hand gesticulations, his choice of words, etc.

About 10 minutes into his shtick, he got a call he “had” to take. I saw that as a sign to quietly leave and I did. From the corner of my eye I could see that others were leaving too. A lot of others.

I just wanted out of there. The bishop at the time should have worked with that man to rid him of those odd affections.

As I recall from native tribes of years ago, it was the twin-spirited, as homosexual men were called, that were most often given the highest place as shamans of their tribes. It was actually a Sign for the tribes people that these men were the ones meant to fulfill that role. Interestiing, right? Wish I could be more specific, but I am not too good at remembering details. I’m sure you could look it up, though.

But, as for the masculine sex drive, I wouldn’t associate a lesser sex drive with effeminate men necessarily. At least not with the gay men I know. Their only difference with the masculine gay men they have as partners is their feminine energy. Drive wise, they are pretty much equal.
