The south wanted it both ways…hold them as property, but count them like citizens. Maybe PA should have demanded that horses were citizens. In any case, the 3/5 compromise is now moot. The same should be said for the EC. Both are anachronisms whose time has passed.
You are correct in the first part. The south wanted slaves counted fully. The 3/5 compromise reduced their influence in the EC.

You are incorrect in the second part. What is left of our republic is dependent on protecting what is left of federalism, and defending against the dangers of democracy and strong central government. The electoral college is critical in that.

On the contrary, the electoral college is more important now than ever. The desires of a large concentrations of citizens in small spaces (be it cities or states) is a danger in terms of imposing their desires on the entirety of the rest of the nation.
Each state’s power is concentrated in a capital city. There is no way sparse areas are going to outcontrol the high density areas. You can drive long distances in Montana without seeing a gas station, but guess what? You can do that in Illinois too.

Neither is worthy of the position, IMO. That may be the saddest thing to me…that the choices were so abysmal all around.
Just think: Had Donald Trump (short of his wallet, it seems, not that mattered so much in this election cycle) not poured it on against Jeb Bush, we could have very well seen Bush vs. Clinton round II, despite all of the other candidates.

I can say for certain that none of the other leading candidates would have challenged Jeb in the way Trump… I think the reason why the establishment spending spree ($100 million in the primary) didn’t work was because Trump hit hard early, often & on point.

What’s $100 million when that corrupt news media gives you billions of dollars of free air time?

What about the growing number of U.S. citizens living abroad? I was just reading that 400,000 some retirees alone live in countries like Germany, UK, Mexico, Canada, and Japan. Or do we just lump them into the CA, WA, and NY buckets with the other 6 million legitimate absentees and yell voter fraud if other states claim them?
I think they vote in the last state they had legal residency in.

It doesn’t help when most of that coverage is neutral at best to down right negative. There’s more to it than just repeating someone’s last name over and over.

When you talk a lot, you open yourself to criticism. True for anyone.

Or would you prefer false praise?
