They’re right. I do think they’re nuts. And, I didn’t need 15 minutes to come to that conclusion. 😛

Central park would be a good place to start this project. Then they can spread out to the rest of Manhatten and the boroughs.

I was thinking California. It would let them get aclimated.

A friend was talking about mountain lions killing people in California. There are two problems. First of all, the Californians voted to outlaw hunting lions, and second, you can’t carry a handgun while doing things like biking, hiking, and so on. So if you encounter a lion, it’s basically mano-a-mano.

This is ridiculous. Nearly every time people introduce foreign species into an area, it has an extremely detrimental effect on the ecosystem. Examples: rabbits in Australia, kudzu vines in the southeastern US, species of slugs in Hawaii, etc. If they’re really concerned about the small numbers of predators such as wolves in the US, a better option would be to support the growth of wolf populations, not to introduce predators that would compete with the wolves for food.
And what happens when the lions figure out that cows, sheep, and other domesticated animals are much easier prey than elk, rats, “and other undesirables”?

The quacky Cornell professor wants to wild areas of the US where he does not live with harmful nonindigenous species.

The people of Ghana would love to ship him their elephants. Elephants raid crops, damage houses, cattle sheds and water pipes. Elephants also like to debark and topple trees. Elephants damage the ecology.

I’m all for it …as long as I can hunt them. It’ll save me money on a trip to Africa…

I wonder, what does elephant taste like anyways…? :hmmm:

Odd that this story should come up. A few days ago, a Kansas girl was killed by a Siberian tiger while posing with the tiger for her high school graduation photo.

Apparently many of the students at the school have had their photos taken with the tiger, which is owned by a private wildlife preserve.

From the Wichita Eagle:

MOUND VALLEY - A Siberian tiger attacked and killed a teenage girl who was posing for her senior high school pictures Thursday morning at an animal sanctuary, authorities said.
The Labette County Sheriff’s office identified the victim as Haley Hilderbrand, 17, of Altamont. A news release said Hilderbrand was at the Lost Creek Animal Sanctuary posing for a photo with the 7-year-old tiger, which was being restrained by its handler, when the animal turned and attacked her.

Tough meat except the trunk and feet. Stewing would be best.

According to the Congo cookbook, you can sell the tusks to buy more wives.

It is said that New York City is as busy as a zoo.

Then OUR food supply will be drastically diminished because the lions are eating OUR food. Then PETA will step in saying that we can’t kill the lions because they are only doing what comes naturally to them…hunting and killing to eat!

I am sure there’s probably a plan to bring back the dinosaurs, just like Jurassic Park! “Holy Brontosaurs Batman!”

Carry a gun anyway.

Also… why would anyone take thier kid on a hike in an area known to have mountain lion attacks? Bait?

Shouldn’t that be mano a paw-o?

Okay, back in my hole.

And risk going to jail?

I understand the dynamics, but it’s a rotten thing to deprive someone of their basic civil rights AND their ability to defend themselves.

The pressure on young lions as the population increases drives them out of wilderness areas and into populated areas. Not so long ago, wildlife authorities in California were called out to deal with a lion that was roaming near a school yard.

Unless you’re a grandfather, then it’s paw-paw a paw-o.
pata a mano. Unless you’re a father in which case it’s pata a papa. 😃 :rotfl:

Not to long ago, we were able to hike the San Diego mountains without a worry. The only time I took my kids last fall, I was a nervous wreck. They want to explore everything and I want them glued to me. We stayed near the wild turkeys. If they flee, we know it’s time to make our retreat. We’re sticking to our lakes and parks in town now.

They did find and kill the cat that was lurking near the school.

I think they should stick to working on the wolves and buffalo. Since the reintroduction of wolves, the vegetation has returned to the river banks and the deer population is more under control. Buffalo would take care of the grasslands. Forget 10,000 years ago, work on the last couple of hundred.
