Elijah assumed into Heaven?

I think that the difference is not between being in Heaven or in Sheol (since the three OT saints all died before the Crucifixion and Mary died after it) it’s experiencing bodily resurrection, which most of us will not experience until the end of time.

And my thought, which is only mine and not based on any research, is that the difference has something to do with the person’s submission to the Holy Spirit during life.

I am reminded of the ending of The Lord of the Rings - all the ringbearers eventually would leave for the Grey Havens. Obviously not theology (nor allegory, either, Tolkien always insisted) but the echo is there - the Ring changed them.

Moses and Elijah both saw God in ways that other mortals did not. Both had intimate relationships with Him that were of a different nature than other saints - even, say, David, or Elisha.

In addition to their appearance on the Mount of Transfiguration, there are textual connections that indicate that the Two Witnesses of Revelation 11 may be Moses and Elijah. (fwiw)
