Where was the shilling against Trump? I didn’t see it. They legitimately disagree with Trump. They didn’t do a Kathy Griffin and have Elmo behead a mannequin.

It’s Elmo, people. He just said kids are kids. That’s pretty much what Pope Francis has said. For God’s sake.
 
I can’t believe the Sesame Street people are spending time and money traveling overseas to help children displaced by the Syrian civil war. What a monstrous thing to do.

If this is “shilling against Trump,” then I guess the Holy Father is also an anti-Trump shill.

If Elmo is good enough to testify before Congress, he’s good enough to be in a panel discussion.

But seriously. Is Elmo wrong? Are refugee children not like us? Is trying to instill some care for our fellow man a bad thing? Also is this unexpected? A character from a TV show that depicts a low-income, multicultural, multiethnic community all living and working together in harmony? In an interview about how CTW is trying to outreach to people in the Middle East? Which is certainly not ‘fake news’. Fake news is hanging a false Time magazine mock-up in your golf clubs.
 
I will NEVER understand the hostility that so many people have against refugees, especially that of people who consider themselves Christian. What does it say about Trump then if we have to remind others that these people are human, too? Also, why is a defense of helping refugees an automatic insult to Trump? And people actually thought he was going to make America a Christian nation once again…LOLOL

I also wonder, since you are saying. Where is the hostility against refugees?

Against refugees no, against terrorism yes.

Refugees can be handled properly and appropriately so that well managed, it will not bring problem to the host country.

If we’re talking about Middle East refugees, like war refugees, surely the international convention deems it’s appropriate to settle them in the neighbouring countries for easy logistic and culture assimilation rather than to a country so alien thousands of mile away.

But guess this is known already. If one wants to find fault there is always a way to do it. 🤷
 
Concern for refugees is what brought me back to the Church. I had been away for years and one day I saw a video of a CNN anchor barely holding it together while reporting on the crisis in Syria and started praying the rosary for them and eventually returned to Mass. So I will always consider this a special area of Christian concern.

That’s great but be wary of the liberal politics that tries to use ‘concern for refugees’ to force on the population its own ideology. There are many different people that need help and there are many different ways to help them.

When helping people a certain way causes sharp civil brawls and polarises politics then it is a good indication people need to find a better way at ‘helping and being concerned.’

Christianity and Progressive politics are two very different movements.

One helps people and has the plaudits of all concerned in making a more harmonious society.

The other is engaged in a constant aggressive culture war demonising all who do not support its politics.

This is why the clear historical record has been for Christians to walk away from Progressive politics.

Those who stay seem to lose their faith over time or at best treat their faith as a distant second to their primary religion of Progressive politics.
 
If saying children are children all over the world is an indicator of* fake* news, then the first post is evidence that dehumanizing those who are different does really happen. Christ teaches us the same lesson through his Church and through our conscience if we do not kill it with self interest.

“Suffer the little children to come onto me, unless, you know, they are too different,” said Jesus never.
 
It’s especially galling to me because Catholics were in that spot a hundred and fifty years ago as the Irish and Poles came here. “The papists are going to overthrow the country!” We of all people should be welcoming.
