What caught my eye most in that article was:

" ‘Am I the only Catholic left with a sense of humor?’ she said in the statement."

 I guess she considers herself Catholic.

If you mean the poster, I do. As long as she’s following the precepts of the Church, she’s just as Catholic as you or I, right?

Where is it written that we all have to have the same sense of humor?

Never mind…I misunderstood.

“sense of humor”?? You would say this? It’s OK for others to say this? It is time that all Christians drew a line, on one side right, on the other, wrong. This was wrong. It was condemned.

God bless,
Ed

The poster was referring to something Kathy Griffin said in the article.
**
"Griffin, whose standup comedy shows often focus on mocking and dishing on celebrities, issued a statement through her publicist in response to the Catholic League’s criticisms, indicating her statements were meant as a joke.

“Am I the only Catholic left with a sense of humor?” she said in the statement."**

I personally don’t think it was funny or in any sense tasteful, but she does have a right to her own opinion. She just made herself look really, really ignorant. I wouldn’t be suprised if her show drops considerably in ratings.

NewLOW for hollywood…Emmy winner "BLASPHEMES"God! Vows allegience to award.

Ah, thank you!

Oh, for heaven’s sake - and she says she’s Catholic??? She’s phenomenally childish, that’s what she is. That isn’t showing a ‘sense of humour’, that’s just saying ‘look at me - I can be shocking!’

It’s not shocking, child - it’s just lame. GROW UP.
Right on sister, I truly am so sick of these people who do stuff like
this!

That’s so frustrating - and, alas, so common these days.

And really, doesn’t that qualify as ‘giving scandal’? To what purpose?

fuming PEOPLE! Sheesh!

Thank you for posting this thread. This disgusting blasphemy must be addressed.

We all know that shows these days are just soundbytes to get people to watch the ads.

Rather than sign this petition, it might be more effective to write to the sponsors of the Emmy’s and of the other shows that offend that you will not be buying their products since they endorse the sentiments expressed. “This show has been brought to you by XYZ Company”, so don’t buy XYZ products - and let them know why.

Actors and studios will ignore the Catholic League or an on-line petition, whereas, the sponsor can withhold the money. Plummeting sales will certainly get their attention.

I heard Bill Donahue from the Catholic League on the radio and he pointed out that if she’d made a similar statement in a Muslim context, or about blacks, or other than Christianity and particularly about being a Catholic, they’d’ve been all on her case.

In fact he made a very good point that that the same sensibilities that cost that sportscaster his job over the crack about the girls basketball team should also kick in in this case as well.

I never listened to her anyway, but you can bet your socks I won’t waste my time from now on if this is her idea of “funny” as a comedienne.:twocents:

Michael,
always thoughtful wih your insight… Thanks!

Personally I thought that she was taking the mickey out of other people who win awards and their speeches rather than having a shot a religion.

I had a laugh a what she said and I believe Jesus would as well.

Bill Donahue also threatened to beat up Christopher Hitchens.
As an Englishman again, you have to be quiet when an Irishman speaks.
She said the awards are worthless to her.
Listen, you want to take it outside, Christopher, that’s fine.

“Suck it” is in the imperative mood. Griffin is telling Jesus to suck it.

Are you saying Jesus would laugh if someone told him, “Suck it”?
