As I have shared before, I have not had meaningful work in over a year. This is getting very scary financially. Here is my problem: There is a company in town that is looking for a very unique skill set that I actually have. I was positive I would at least get an interview. I applied well over 3 weeks ago and hear nothing.

I have had 2 employment recruiters want to present my resume to the organization. However, since I have applied on my own, they are not allowed. I heard yesterday from one recruiter they have not filled the position because they have not found anyone who fits the bill. I find that very odd because on paper, I am a perfect fit.

I suspect my resume got lost in the pile. And I am very nervous about that. If I had an interview and they did not feel I was a fit after the interview, as disappointing as it would be, I would at least know it is not because my resume got lost in the pile. But right now, I can’t help but think something is fishy.

I have followed up with human resources via email and did not hear back. So I called and spoke to HR. This lady told me that after she sends the resumes to the hiring manager, she has nothing to do with the process. She said she would forward my email address and have the hiring manager contact me. I semi suspect she may just be saying that to get rid of me.

So… as much as I want to trust God will lead me to the job He has in mind for me, I can’t just sit back and do nothing. If the reality is, my working there is NOT God’s will, I want to accept it. However, I do not sense God leading me elsewhere and I do suspect God wants me working. So I have no idea what else I can do.

There is one person I know inside the company but he said he was not comfortable mentioning my name to the hiring manager and I want to respect his boundary. The only other person I semi know in the company is in a totally different department and I do not know him well. I can’t help but feel it would be awkward to ask him for help.

So… I have not idea where to go from here. If anyone has any suggestion, I would be grateful. Also, prayers would be appreciated

Angie

Has the closing date for applications been passed already?

If not, you could possibly resubmit your application, with a covering letter that you are concerned that your original application did not reach the company concerned.

yes, the original closing date has gone by. However, they have an option where one can submit a general application. I wrote a cover letter explaining my unique skill and submitted it to the general place

Ok, not being familiar with the usual practises in your country, I’m not going to comment further. Hopefully someone with knowledge and advice from there will give you some ideas.

Your friend may not feel comfortable talking directly to the hiring manager, but would he be willing to at least give you his name? Then you could call the manager directly. Make sure to prepare and a rehearse a quick spiel so that you are not flummoxed if he actually answers the phone.

No he is not willing to give me the name and I don’t want to push. It would not make for a good reference

Why not let the recruiter submit your resume? I don’t understand why you are hesitant about that. If they submit your resume and you still don’t get an interview then you will know that something might be wrong with your resume. Sometimes people are great fits for certain jobs but their resume doesn’t show their strong points very well. So let the recruiter submit it and see what happens. What do you have to lose?

A lot of times hiring managers like to use recruiters because they prescreen resumes for them and cuts their work in half.

She said since she submitted the resume herself, the recruiters are not allowed to resubmit the resume. This was the case as well when my husband used a recruiter in the past. If you use a recruiter, you can not also submit your resume to the same company.

yes, this is exactly how it works

Whose rules are these and who is responsible for following them? In other words, are these guidelines for applicants or recruiters? Is it the recruiter that is worried about not getting commission?

I don’t think it’s unethical for you to explain to the recruiter your situation and ask if they are still willing to submit your application. The company wants to hire the right person for the job. You want the job. The recruiter wants credit for getting you the job. If the recruiter does successfully match you, it’s a win-win-win.

These are the rules agreed to by the recruiters and the companies. Once my resume is in the companies database, they are considered to ‘own my resume’. They are NOT going to pay someone for something they own. Think of a resume as a car. If I want to rent a car I will pay for it. But if the rental agency goes to my garage and gives me my car, there is no way I will pay them.

Since it is impossible for the recruiter to get a commission out of the deal, there is NO WAY they are going to help me. No one does there job if they know they won’t be paid at the end of the day.

Trust me, I have asked for the recruiter to help me and they say ‘no’. I can not single handly change the way the business works

You don’t think you’d make a very bad impression on the recruiter and the company if you asked them to resubmit the resume even though they’ve already explained to you that they can not and will not do so? It may not be unethical, but I wouldn’t hire you if you couldn’t follow the instructions.

I thought the OP made it sound as if she was approached by these recruiters after she submitted her application and that they were nonetheless still interested in submitting for her. I got this impression because it did not make sense to me that she would dismiss a recruiter suggesting she apply to a job that she had not already applied to.

I think the part you are missing is that the recruiters didn’t have prior knowledge of the OP submitting her resume on her own when they approached the OP about submitting her resume for her. Once she informed them that the resume was already submitted, they informed the OP they couldn’t resubmit it.

Exactly

Call the main number of the company and ask for the hiring manager?

I have done that on a couple of occasions and they REFUSE to give out the name. The last time they told me they would give the hiring manager my contact information and she would get back to me.

I really feel I have don everything humanly possible and the only thing that could help is Divine intervention.

Please pray for me

Then maybe you just need to accept that this company doesn’t like making money, and therefore doesn’t want to hire you 😉

Yes I think you have. Apparently the trick is to appear interested but not to be too much of a nag. I think the ball is in the company’s court. If it is meant to be…
