My husband and I have been trying to have a baby but just can’t seem to get it right. 😉 I’m frustrated like some of you but I trust and want to keep this thread light. 🙂 I would like to hear some of your encouraging stories regarding conception or adoption. I’ve heard so many stories of miscarriage or drugs or hormone therapy–I want to hear some good old wholesome positive ones. I trust God and I know He wants a little one for us and even if He doesn’t, I trust Him on that too. But bring on your stories!! And meanwhile, I will look up some more ways to get pregnant…someone suggested standing on my head??? :rotfl:

*I know this is a very sensitive subject and believe me, I have cried many tears but I really want to hear positive stories and smile and trust.

Awwww…God bless you. I don’t have any stories to share, but I’ll send up a little prayer for your family tonight.

My DW and I tried for 13 years to have a child. We went through numerous doctors and procedures but, nothing worked. 2 years ago, we found a doctor that wanted to check her for a routine issue that we were certain had been checked before but, we consented to let him try. In the course of this routine “inspection” he discovered a very thin, Saran Wrap type scar tissue that he felt may have been the issue. 2 months later, we did artificial insemination and, 24 months later’ we are parents to our Conor Michael…

Don’t give up hope, things happen on His time, not ours…

Just try to relax about the whole thing - which I know is hard!!!

I bought a book, Understanding Your Fertility. There were a lot of suggestions in there, and there’s also a gread thread on CAF - Pregnant Mommies. I’m sure many of the women there have overcome infertility. Probably number 1 tip is to make sure you use a water-based, sperm-friendly, well, you know! Pre-seed is a good one. (I think that is the name.) Take your prenatal vitamins - a natural version (naturemade) worked for me. Drink plenty of water and practice a healthy lifestyle. I avoided all red40 dye and artificial sweeteners during the who process. You might want to chart your temp. I used a website called fertilityfriend.com. Turns out the successful time to conceive was just before “peak” fertility was predicted.

DH and I married late - late 30’s, and were approaching 40. I wrote a letter to John Paul II asking him to pray for me, that God give us a little girl. First conception was an early miscarriage (blighted ovum), but then, very next attempt, we got our little bean. Then there was a worry that she might have Down’s (from week 12 onward), but at birth she was found to be unaffected.

Pray also to St. Gerard.

God bless you and good luck!

I joined just to reply to your thread. I’ve always been a lurker on Catholic forums. 🙂 Back in the 1940s my grandparents got married at 21 (grandma) and 25 (grandpa) after he got back from spending two years in England during WWII. Grandma and grandpa were open to life since honeymoon, but after 7 years of trying they decided to adopt my Uncle. On my uncle’s 1st birthday, they found out they were pregnant with my dad. 🙂 Two years after my dad was born, my grandmother got pregnant with another boy, and then two years after another boy!

Also my parents had a difficult time conceiving as well. They were always open to life, and after 8 years of marriage, they were finally blessed with me. 🤷 haha. Of course conceived naturally. I’m their one and only. They always prayed for a big family but sometimes God has other plans.

I Thank God that we practiced “Natural Family Planning.” Using this method most women conceive with in 1-3 months. Due to my NFP charts which spanned 18 months, my doctor was able to read my cycle. He said it contained a wealth of information, and just knocked off 6 months of expensive fertility tests. 🙂

Sadly we found out we could never conceive naturally. We decided to adopt! We signed up with an agency, and started the paperwork. We were told that over a million couples a year could not find a baby to adopt. ( now it’s over 2 million) I asked a Holy Catholic woman in our parish to ask God when we would be able to adopt. She prayed and said, “We would know in June.” It was early May. I was sooo excited, but June came & went with no news. I said, “Well that was a lousy professy.” She responded with a smile, “Wait for next June.” Honestly, I was ticked off. I was sick & tired of waiting…

Much later we heard from a teenage couple who wanted to meet with us. She was so cute, and energetic. Her hair color, and freckles matched my own. He looked like he could be my husbands younger brother! They wanted a Catholic Family. We both came from families that had been Catholic for generations. They wanted a couple who’s marriage was solid. We had been married 7 years. They wanted a couple who were financially sound. We owned a home, and had saved for adoption. We had sooo much fun sharing with each other our dreams for the baby! It was sooo exciting. They had considered marriage, but decided not to. They both had scholarships to College. They wanted to get educated, and married before becoming parents. They wanted their baby to have the best in life, and weren’t able to provide it. After several meetings, and getting to know each other they asked us to adopt their baby! We hopped up & down! I squealed. We laughed and hugged. They told us we were expecting a baby girl! They gave us ultrasound pictures of her! I wept. There aren’t words to describe how wonderful it was. And…IT WAS JUNE!

The more we learned about these teens the more we admired them. We felt led by God to offer to have an open adoption with them. They prayed about it, and decided to continue our communications after the baby was born. We invited them to see our home, and the nursery we had set up! We had already enjoyed 3 baby showers, and were able to show them all the cute clothes, accesories, and toys awaiting our baby! the 4 of us shared this spiritual unity. This wonderful sense that God had brought us together for the love of this child. They invited us to name her before she was even born! We named her Heather.

When we brought our baby home, I was soooo excited, I couldn’t sleep for 3 nights. I’d just lay in bed and smile. Her cribette was right next to me. I could hear her breath, and see her beautiful face. We told her birthparents that they were invited to visit as soon as they felt up to it. They visited 4 times the first year, and I sent letters, and pictures once a month. They loved sharing them with family, and friends. When ever Heather did something new, I looked forward to sharing it with them. We knew they were as excited as we were, and so proud of her! They have become like extended family. They have been so deeply respectful of us. In fact they told another birthmom about us, and she adopted us for her baby! Our son Nicholas. That’s another happy baby story.

Our Birth Parents, and Grand parents shared in our joy at our kids’ Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, and our daughter’s wedding! God is so sweet to us…

When we got married, my wife’s best friend growing up and her new husband, attended from out of town. They were married about eighteen months before us.
About 6-8 weeks later, we got a call that they were expecting a baby in about seven months. They dated the conception to around our wedding. They were overjoyed. They confessed to my wife that they had been trying to conceive since they were married with no success. They believed that coming to our wedding, they had relaxed and that had aided in conception.

We have been using NFP and have been able to plan and space our three children accordingly. Sometimes I think it works too well. It is almost like I look at her in the bedroom when she is ovulating and she gets pregnant!!😃

My husband and I were married later in life and I’m now pregnant at age 42 with our first child (a girl), due in February. We only use NFP and were able to conceive naturally within 2 months of trying. I highly recommend using ovulation test strips (early-pregnancy-tests.com/pacof3ovtess.html) and Pre-seed lubricant. I’m convinced that’s what did it for us. As others have advised, take your prenatal vitamins, make sure your ob/gyn gives a thorough exam, and pray constantly!

I’ll be praying for you. (I had posted a similar comment to this forum in April, feeling hopeless at my “advanced age” for conception – and went on to conceive successfully within a month.) 🙂

My sister and her husband are actually foster parents right now from a little deaf boy. He came from a very poor family and lived with his mother and his 6 siblings in a lean to. Well, they actually work at a deaf school, so they are fluent and so it worked out well. He now goes to the school they work at and live with them. He didn’t have any language until he moved in with them last year (age 5) so now he has language and is learning fast. We know he was at an orphanage with a brother and sister and they got adopted, but he didn’t.

They are now in the process of trying to adopt him and hopefully will be able to soon! My husband and I (as well as the rest of the family) I working on learning sign language so we can talk to him. I love him so much and now I can’t imagine him not being in our family. He fits in so well.

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for years. One of the best things I have ever done is sign up with the Creighton Model. It’s a version of NFP that doesn’t require taking temperatures, something I always found to be a pain. It is Catholic-approved and not only is it super easy but it also teaches you so much about your cycle. Even if you ever need to avoid pregnancy, this methods teaches you how to do it. I really can’t say enough good things about it. Now let’s just hope it helps me get pregnant! 😛

I actually have an inspiring story about BOTH conception and adoption…

After many years of irregular cycles, missed or absent ovulation, weight gain, etc. i was not surprised to learn in 2001 that I have PCOS. my fertility doc was very understanding and a good man of God, so he was willing to go only as far as I wanted to, with my Catholic beliefs. regardless, i also had some benign tumors on each ovary that had to be removed, so with that surgery i went home on heavy fertility drugs and conceived two months later. i lost that baby almost immediately but conceived our DD right away after. we were told we would probably never get pregnant, and she’ll be 10 this year!

fast forward 5 years, we decided to go a round with fertility treatments again. this time, multiple injections each day, multiple procedures, IUI’s, and all the while we kept trying on our own too. this went on and off for about 2 years! no luck…after much prayer and council we decided to undergo a more advanced fertility procedure. we also had previously registered with a catholic adoption agency.

several months later, after all the hormone testing, waiting, more testing, etc. i had the procedure. two weeks we waited, and prayed…on a monday morning in 2011 i got the call at work from my wonderful fertility doctor that the procedure had not worked and there were no other options from him, only to pursue IVF. i cried, called upon my Lord, the Blessed Mother and my patron Therese. I cried all morning. I left work and went to the chapel at the catholic hospital where I work. I placed it all on jesus and went back to work. still heartbroken, I decided that we were done and called my husband.

We hung up and my phone rang- it was our adoption agency and they had our son, already born, ready to meet us. completely out of left field. he came home the folowing week.

they are BOTH a joy and complete miracles. God WILL send you the child He has intended for you, in whatever way that child is supposed to arrive! God’s peace to you!!!

My great aunt (my grandmother’s little sister) got married in her early 20s and subsequently was told that she would never be able to conceive. She was devastated, but they adopted two children, a boy and a girl. When she was 42, she found out she was pregnant. My cousin Julie was born healthy (she’s about 3 years older than me) and is now happily married and has a boy and a girl of her own.

Prayers for you!

Our older daughter and her husband have been married 8 years. She had a miscarriage about 3 years ago, then… nothing. She saw a NaPro (Creighton) trained OB, who agreed to do thyroid tests, as my daughter suspected something wasn’t right. Though the tests were borderline, she started thyroid meds. She and her husband moved to another part of the country, where she was fortunate enough to find another wonderful NaPro physician. He had her begin a cycle of blood draws, with the intention of having them analyzed at the Pope Paul VI Institute in Omaha. Just as she finished the blood draws (and she loathes needles) she was running a marathon and felt sluggish; she had only felt that way once before, the one time she was pregnant. She did a pregnancy test, and, to her delight and astonishment, it was positive. She has been well cared for by her wonderful pro-life physicians and is due this Thursday with a little boy!

Please have your thyroid checked; it is often overlooked, and previous doctors disregarded my daughter’s intuition that something was “off”; it turned out that getting her thyroid under control made all the difference (along with lots of prayers and pro-life, NaPro docs!!!)

(I, personally, am one of 4 children adopted by my parents in the 1950s and 1960s, but that is another story…)

To the OP: saying a prayer for you!

It took about 15 months to conceive our oldest (DD1). The next was conceived about 8 months later but lost to miscarriage. From the miscarriage to conceiving our next child (DS) took 18 months. When DS was 7 months old, I had one cycle and we conceived DD2. You just never know how long it will take.

Thank you everyone for your very encouraging stories! I am astonished by all of the different ways that God has truly surprised you with your miracles. If it is His will, I hope to add to your stories someday! Thanks for all of the love!
