I am one of those people, and if you tell me to slide over, I will tell you no. Actually, if you want to sit next to me with your four kids, I will be more than happy to give you the entire pew and find another end of the pew to sit. I don’t want children disrupting me and getting in my space.

Yes, I am single, and I don’t want your cry-me-a-river story about your tough life you chose when your opted to get married and have children. You could have chosen to stay single and celibate, but part of marriage is children and having to make sacrifices. Accept it and offer it up.

Don’t make assumptions that the single life is some relaxed easy-going life because it isn’t. I have school, deadlines, work, and a house to maintain myself. I accept it as part of my life and relax as soon as I enter in the church. How can you be all stressed and tense when in the presence of Jesus? 🤷
I love it when people who does not have a clue about having kids talk big like this. If you don’t want to be exposed to other people including kids in church, I suggest staying home. Church is time for community to gather, not people act as if they have rights over other people.

Wow, talk about making an assumption about what is going on inside people’s heads!
:banghead:

Some of us prefer to have a better view of the altar and sanctuary. :hmmm:
For sake of clarity, that is why I used my own motives and experience.
At least that’s why I used to do it. I didn’t want to be hemmed in by others.

Now, that looks like a sweet liturgy!

Where is this?

Do they hold hands during the Our Father? 😛
This is from the best Catholic parish in North America, St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church in Brampton, Ontario.

No, they do not hold hands during the Lord’s Prayer, though you might literally get a kiss during the Kiss of Peace as is the custom in Eastern Europe 😉

I prefer the end of the pew, but that does not make me a “pew blocker” (I hope). I happily get up to let anyone in. Why should it be a problem for someone that I do not “slide in” to the middle of the pew? When I get up to let folks in, they always seem grateful. It is not an imposition for either of us.
My elderly mother sits in the disabled section of our church, and I sit on the end of the pew close to her so that I can assist her if she needs help. But honestly, I have always prefered the end of the the pew (I have mild social anxiety).

Charity should rule the day. If someone needs you to move you should cordially do so, whether it be to get up and let them in, or slide down. A friendly smile cures all.

Looks beautiful!

A little too far for me. I’ll make due with St. Hand-holding Clappy time. 😃

Of course I am hoping that you will understand that I sit on the end of a pew because it helps me battle my anxiety problem which will be triggered by sitting in the middle of a row. When I sit on the end I have no trouble. I will gladly move out of your way so you can enter. I have to admit I am not sure why this would bother anyone.

Of course, dear sister or brother!

I’m mainly asking for the reasons…not to try and talk people out of blocking. I’m understanding a lot more now that people are chiming in. I didn’t know social anxiety or whatever ran so deep.

The ‘strangers’ thing seems a little odd to me though. Restaurant? Yes- strangers. Movies? Yes- strangers. Worshipping with kindred souls in Christ? Not strangers…

Who actually *LIKES *sitting in the middle of the pews?

Most people seem to either like the end or have no preference. I’ve seen very few people who actually WANT to sit in the middle just because they like the middle.

(Some people will sit in the middle because they have a preference for not having to move but that’s not quite a preference for sitting in the middle. Those people would sit at the end of if that’s what it took to avoid moving.)

I happen to believe that people are a lot more claustrophobic than is generally understood to be the case. Sitting at the end of a pew makes them feel less confined.

My parents lived in Brampton and went to mass in a school gym - they should have gone to this parish!

yes, some of us are 5’0" and can’t see if they don’t get an aisle seat. then again, if i’m asked to move, then we move, unless one of us is doing a reading or is an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist for that mass, in which case we get up to let the asker in. (i’m also married with kids.) after all, i can still hear and just being in His presence is enough.

I sit on the end, because it’s naturally the first place to sit. If the Mass is filling up and people need places to sit, by all means I used to scoot to the middle! Key words, used to. Now I get up to let others go into the middle, only because it is much easier with my toddler being at the end. The inevitable potty break is much less disruptive to those around me if I don’t have to step over their laps on our way in and out. 🙂

Can I get an AMEN up in here!!!

apparently, op is doing what God ordained. the sacraments are unwarranted and unmerited gifts that God doles out at His discretion. yes, there is free will involved so op made that choice, but God’s will is not for you to deny, neither is it for you to diminish his work and the work of his wife in the way that they serve God just because they do not serve Him in the same way that you do.

Whoa! I love you Constantine TG, but I think this is going a little overboard. When I first read the post in question my first reaction was “OUCH!” But my second time reading it, it made more sense to me, especially when it came as a reaction to the OP’s post.
