I have a few Muslim friends from SA who have been fasting for Ramadan. I just got an invitation to the party they are throwing when it’s over, advertising lots of free alcohol and saying, “Ramadan is over and we can drink again!!”
I thought Muslims weren’t allowed to drink any time of the year, not just during Ramadan.
I couldn’t help but contrast this with the Christian season of Lent, which is a time of penance and reflection…we usually try to think how we can do better and overcome ours sins the rest of the year. For the Muslims I know, Ramadan is like a temporary break from sinning, but they’re already planning on going back to their old sinful ways as soon as it’s over–so much that they’re actually having a party to celebrate the fact that they can sin again!
I like these guys a lot but I feel sorry that they belong to such a twisted, legalistic, and inconsistent religion like Islam.
What do you guys (Muslims and Christians both) think about this?
