I like Damian and I think he’s generally right. Even in this issue I think he’s probably in the right direction, but is it me or does his reaction here blogs.telegraph.co.uk/damian_thompson/blog/2009/03/12/english_bishops_summary_of_popes_letter_leaves_out_the_bits_they_dont_like seem a little OTT?
Fr. Z, in his usual understated manner leaves it to you to decide about the English & Welsh Bishops joint statement wdtprs.com/blog/2009/03/uk-bishops-conference-statement-summary-of-the-popes-letter/
You can read the statement for yourselves here catholic-ew.org.uk/ccb/catholic_church/media_centre2/press_releases/press_releases_2009/letter_from_pope_benedict_xvi_concerning_the_remission_of_the_excommunication_of_the_four_bishops_consecrated_by_archbishop_lefebvre
To me it appears typically bland, as the leadership of the Church over here has been typically bland over the last few years.
With a change coming up in the Church in England & Wales (or, if some have their way perhaps not) this all takes on a very meaningful and interesting light don’t you think?
