“Bishop Philip Egan of Portsmouth tweeted about a trip he made outside of his diocese during which he failed to find a single Catholic church that was open.”

“Why is this, when every Anglican Church is welcomely open?’”

Interesting, but maybe they are more worried about protecting the Tabernacle and
vandalism?

When I used to travel for work I would attempt to visit a Parish wherever I was. It is sad but many inner City parishes are locked except for daily Mass.

Our downtown Cathedral, despite the constant presence of “homeless” in the area, is open daily from about 7 AM to 6 PM. Its nice to be able to stop by any time during the day.

Yes, I wish more Churches were open.

As Christians it seems wrong that our decisions would be based out of fear (i.e. of crime and vandalism).

I wish more churches were open as well. Our church was robbed overnight after one door was left unlocked. Some musical items were stolen and other items related to the
Mass. It does cost money to replace stolen goods even if you have insurance. There is
a deductible. It is not something you want to have happen over and over again.
Our Adoration chapel is always locked. You have to have a code to enter.
If churches could have volunteers who were willing to work in shifts during the day and
be physically present, they could leave the doors unlocked. I am not sure how feasible
that would be, however.
