I’m sorry, your statement is not correct. Catholics are required to believe that there was a first pair, but not in a literal interp of the creation story…that is, we can accept the mechanics of evolution, with the caveat that at some point God infused a rational soul into a first pair…

Not exactly but possibly, as humans lived hundreds of years, remember Adam was 120 when Seth was born, there would be many generations present. At Adam’s death he probably had at least 120 descends and may be 200+. Cain, Abel, Seth did marry sisters. Enoch (generation 3)may have married a sister or cousin.

So Adam at the time of his death,at 940 years, had only 200 decendents?
Leaving out the fact that it would be genetic suicide for a race to start from a pair, and that it would be incest, why is this just skipped over in the bible.
Possibly because it seemed a convenienet solution at the time the first scribes planned the story?

Not likely. You are assuming that God cant do things He chooses to do.
Of course, to us to try to go back and think that Adams decendants were denied any special graces, as we do now have through the sacraments you would be jumping to conclusions.
I prefer to see it as a divine mystery.
The bible is not the book that will tell us all of the supernatural, on its own.
But, everything that is can be found in it.
If one looks at the bible in a proper way, and understands its purpose.

Only if the couple had defective genes. If they were perfect it would work fine - note the Hawaiian royal family which systematically weeded out all defectives.
Defective mutations were part of the punishment for the fall.

Logically, Adam and Eve probably would have had perfect genes. They were created without sin, so they were not yet under judgment. Thus their physical bodies wouldn’t have likely carried the imperfections ours do now.
