I have said a Hail Mary for this thread and the forum at large

As for the Proud Boys, they were only set up to fight back against Antifa thugs. In effect by physically fighting Antifa, they were trying to prevent Antifa from physically hurting others. But sure, if Antifa was banned, there would be no need for the Proud Boys to exist either.
Do you really think the Proud Boys, the Boogaloo Boys, and their ilk, would just magically disappear if Antifa were gone? That is so naive. They would find an excuse to continue to push violence.

In the US it is perfectly legal to fly a swastika, theres legal precedent to do so. It is also legal for Nazis to march through predominantly Jewish areas, with police protection. If that’s legal then flying an AnCom flag or displaying an Antifa logo must also be legal.

One caveat- while most of this speech is legally protected, there may not be protection from consequences. For example, if someone making demands of a specific act of violence results in violence, those victims have civil recourse to recover damages. This may come to play in the coming years. Freedom of speech is limited somewhat, and is never meant to be freedom from consequences of speech.

Can somebody confirm to me what the law is in the US? In the UK free speech is protected (in theory) but threats of violence and incitement to violence are not allowed. Is this the same in the US?

I didn’t say the would ‘magically disappear’. I said there would be no need for them to exist. In theory they shouldn’t be in existence now, because their aim is to ‘fight’, but since Antifa are still allowed to function, the Proud Boys were created to fight back against them. I don’t know anything about the Boogaloo boys.

I have heard of cases where ‘fighting words’ were mentioned.

For speech to be illegal, threats need to be specific, that is imminent lawless action, like burning down this building tonight. General hate and calls to violence are not illegal. This does allow for some gray area.

By his declaring ‘antifa’ a ‘terrorist’ organization, then he’s admitting that he’s a fascist. I’m anti fascist and anti-Nazi, so am “I” a terrorist?
Seriously?? Antifa isn’t just an “anti-fascist” group. They are a Communist group. They are a militant group dedicated to bringing a red-revolution - just like the Bolsheviks

If Antifa was really just an anti-fascist group, they would not have vandalized the World War II Memorial, which was a war fought against Fascism.

I hear you, but my issue is that we don’t apply equal reasoning to both sides. If we are worried about social distancing, what about the 10,000 strong crowd shoulder to shoulder in California yesterday. The protesters don’t seem to be concerned about social distancing…
I loathe to defend political stunts, but all presidents do this. Some are much smoother than others. I’m not against criticism, but I think we need to apply it equally to both sides. The same with media, social justice, really any injustice. If it’s bad when I do it, but perfectly ok when someone else does it…that’s not really truth.

Exactly. I thought it was pretty ironic that both Nancy Pelosi and Gov Cuomo criticized Trump for using the Bible by holding a Bible themselves.

I found it even more ironic that Cuomo said “we in NY actually read the Bible,” forgetting that Trump is (1) from New York, (2) that NYS celebrated the expansion of abortion (3) and that Cuomo has said that pro-life people don’t represent the values of NY.

Absolutely no exceptions. I am not worried about social distancing but about the perfect storm that has been created for the pandemic everyone has forgotten about in this situation.
So many jobs and livlihoods and lives already lost to the Pandemic already, under controls to limit its spread. All that has been undone.

The difference is Cuomo actually opened the Bible and read 3 or 4 verses from it in his conference.

Really, does that really matter? Do you honestly think that Cuomo is any more Religious than Trump? No.
Of course it matters.
Osmosis doesnt really work with the written word. A book has to be opened and read.
Otherwise it is just a prop.

Cuomo has demonstrated he has the goods to read Scripture to those he leads, makes no excuses for it and has an obviously demonstrated faith. Even if he is still on his journey to its completeness.

wow, you fell for his trick, hook line & sinker.

It doesn’t take a political genius to determine that the best way to one-up Trump in that situation was to read a passage from the Bible. Heck, Biden already said something like that earlier in the day - “He should read the Bible”

I can say this: Andrew Cuomo is NOT a God fearing Catholic. Neither are Nancy Pelosi or Joe Biden.

All three of them EQUALLY use their Catholicism as a prop everytime they mention it.

If you want to say that Trump playcates to Christians for votes, fine. But the Cuomo, Pelosi & Biden all do the EXACT same thing, esp towards Catholics.

Respect in a conversation is crucial Phil.

Great deflection there
Andrew Cuomo is NOT a God fearing Catholic.
We have no idea who fears God and who doesnt. We cannot know what is in a heart
Neither are Nancy Pelosi or Joe Biden.
Stay on topic, why are you throwing in those names, we are not discussing them
If you want to say that Trump playcates to Christians for votes, fine
Where did I say that exactly? I said Trump used a Bible as a prop in a photo op.

Fwiw It was not about votes but an attempt to step back into his own void. We saw today who is about to step into that vacuum created.
Btw Gold ’ play cates’ Was that a deliberate play on words
Pelosi & Biden all do the EXACT same thing, esp towards Catholics.
Again stay on topic and I wont engage in the ’ against Catholics esp’ victim type rhetoric.

Respect or scroll on by Phil,

My apologies.

However, I fail to understand why Cuomo reading the Bible the day after Trump help up the Bible means that Cuomo is a better Christian?

Cuomo’s policies have been filled with the promotion of heresy and mortal sin:
  • From same sex marriage to abortion
Trump (while surely not a model Christian by any means) has fought against abortion & has fought for Christians

Cuomo is also Catholic. He should know better. Trump is not Catholic, but he’s been a better friend to the Catholic Church than Cuomo.

You said Cuomo “has an obviously demonstrated faith. Even if he is still on his journey to its completeness.”

I don’t see it. Cuomo has demonstrated only that his views are heretical and he has not demonstrated that he is a Catholic on his journey towards complete belief in Catholic doctrine.

Trump on the other hand is crude. However, he has been showing signs that he is being touched by our weekly prayers for him from time to time. Whether Trump one day becomes a devout Christian is left to be seen. But his actions in regards to abortion & religious liberty are steps in the right direction.

I fail to understand why you think I wrote that. I did not enter that discussion.

Yes I knew you would bring that up,
we are all sinners on a journey here pn earth. We all sin, Pray for him.
Trump is not a pious religious person either.
That has no bearing on this conversation.

I’m just curious what someone like Leon Bloy would say about all our politicians, Trump included. 😁
