HI Vivienne,
Absolutely I read the entire article. I would never post it without reading all of it. I realize the bishop and leadership position on what happened here vs. the priest’s views. But my point in posting this is not just to look at this particular act of inanity but to hammer the point home that it is the very nature and environment as well as self-contradicting agenda of TEC that allows this kind of bizarre frivolity to flourish! In the Catholic Church some rogues are out there but this type of over-the-top absurdity would be smacked-down. A guy like this should be excommunicated and defrocked. But it is this loosy-goosey and surreal environment and theological playground that TEC encourages that gives a guy like this the opportunity to do these things. Sure, the bishop might not condone it, but it’s the turf, the mindset of the church in general, where it’s going with the overarching “inclusion” mission and the Presiding Bishop’s “Christ is a way to God, not THE way” example being set that is promoting these types of acts. These folks are completely on a godless path…sad stuff…
This is alarming, but did you read the whole article in the link provided?

I am a former Episcopalian (Anglican) myself - happily, gratefully and gladly Catholic for more than 2 years now. But I know there are liberal and conservative strains in Anglicanism and I have had both types of priests as my pastor at different times. One of the liberal ones could almost have used something similar, his Archdeacon and Bishop would have thoroughly chewed him up for that; the conservative priests wouldn’t have touched this thing with three bargepoles lashed together.

But please note from the article:

When parishioners filed into St. John’s Episcopal Church in Harrison, Arkansas, on All Saints Sunday, November 1, they were handed a bulletin that sent shivers down the spines of many of the congregants. It was a case of inclusion gone wild.

Many of the parishioners were not happy with this!

Note this response from the Bishop of Arkansas:

*VOL contacted Arkansas Bishop Larry R. Benfield to ask if this liturgy had been approved. Through his communications officer Micah McConnell the bishop issued the following statement: *

“I am a supporter of interfaith dialogue. I look forward to the day when the many barriers that now separate us can be removed. But interfaith dialogue works best when we are confident of our own Christian faith and can articulate it clearly.”

He clearly does not support this “liturgy”.

Nor does this Bishop:

However, a former Episcopalian who is now a bishop in the Reformed Episcopal Church, the Rt. Rev Sam Seamans who received a copy of the bulletin incredulously asked, "Can you believe this? I really am at a loss, even coming from a TEC parish. It is truly unbelievable.

Asked why he forwarded this to VOL, the bishop said, "I do think that we need to expose these kinds of things because they are leading so many people astray. When a parishioner hands me something like this from an “Anglican” church in my own state I am going to respond - part of what we promise to do as bishops is to drive out strange and erroneous doctrines.

Before we Catholics brand all Anglicans as a result of this highly irregular liturgy, it is worth remembering that:

It serves no good purpose to say that all Anglicans are pagan because of what we have read here. Many, many Anglicans are indeed devout, faithful and godly (I just wish they would all come home - but painting with such broad strokes will not bring them back, more likely make them feel totally unaccepted by Catholics.)

I never said “all Anglicans” did I? TEC is the liberal, la-la land version of Anglicanism in the United States and not the total sum of Anglicans in North America or in the U.S. either, correct? There is TAC, ACNA, REC, and so many others, correct? You know I was not “broad-brush-painting” here so I respectfully ask that you carefully read what I post. I have been involved in the ACNA and have respect for many Anglicans. Some are good friends. I think if you have gotten to know me by now on CAF, I never demean Anglicans but I have serious disagreement and a lack of respect for the Episcopal Church, which I consider neo-pagan. I will not back down from that. If you feel that we need to coddle and hug TEC to win converts, I’m not willing to trot down that road. I will call a spade a spade. This is a lost, wounded, seriously heterodox group at TEC. And anyone with any intellect or knowledge of Anglicanism knows the difference between ACNA and TEC as well as the rest of the Anglican Communion.

My apologies.

Bear in mind that I am not from the USA and have no personal experience of the different Anglican groups there. I am from South Africa and my entire experience of Anglicanism is from there - this would not be tolerated or brushed under the carpet by any of the Anglican Bishops I knew out there. (But I’ll happily agree that some very strange and unChristian things are happening in the Anglican church - why do you think I left?)

TEC = The Episcopal Church

Thanks to those who are investigating the alleged authorship by a Catholic priest. I’m about to embark on my own investigation.
Doyle, the priest, now I have a bad taste in my mouth, is/was a former RC priest.

I am beginning to think we Anglicans are an assorted bag of nuts! We better watch out for the squirrels!

I am beginning to think we Anglicans are an assorted bag of nuts! Sadly you may be right here, but :rotfl:, certainly this kind of nuttiness helped me move over to the Catholic church (where God had been trying to get me for years, I guess He was whispering into my deaf ear, or I was being my stubborn self. I’m glad to be where I’m supposed to be at last. 😉 ) We better watch out for the squirrels!

Why do people at this forum love to make fun of other religious points of view? Is that edifying to ones spiritual life?

LOL…Perhaps it was a rare squash! Maybe it was exotic and a hybrid! lol…Out here in California, the central valley, we have awesome grafted fruit and mixtures. I have three “pluot” trees in my backyard alone—a fruit that is part apricot and part plum. Holy smokes, the most AWESOME fruit imaginable! That idiot should’ve sacrificed one of those! Pluots over squash I say for these pagans! LOL
Ahh, pagans… bless 'em. 😃

I wonder, did they cook that squash for God or did they expect him to eat it raw? Squash makes a nice vegetable soup!

I have nothing to really contribute except that this article reminds me of the priest/bishop/monk/imam guy from Futurama. I wish I could find a picture…he’s so silly looking.

Technically speaking this priest has a “point of view,” but do you seriously, in good conscience, think that pointing out the insanity of a “priest” making a litany praising Hindu gods and the Buddha and Islam and Muhammad, mixing non-Christian gods and characters is ok? Do you really think this is a mocking session or just pointing out the fact that this is total insanity!? As a Catholic, can you really stomach this as a valid CHRISTIAN point of view? This isn’t mockery, it’s just trying to comprehend theological pan-religious depravity…Why are people so quick to always jump on the bandwagon of “hey, stop picking on this poor victim” when the ‘victim’ is a guy who is creating a synergy and a composite god that consists of Christ PLUS pagan deities? The very definition of idolatry and sin in its ugliest form. Why is the instinct to feel sorry for this and defend rather than be outraged as Christ was outraged with the money changers outside the temple? 🤷

This is absolutely stunning!

This Episcopal parish in Arkansas has taken neo-pagan liberal christianity to new heights!

Here is an excerpt but I recommend reading the above link. wowzers!

***CELEBRANT: Blessed are all you holy ones, the saints, you who have done the will of God, and now rejoice in the reward of Eternal joy.

Holy men and women who worshipped the All Holy One as Rama, Vishnu or the Lord Krishna, forest hermits, ascetics and wise ones whose lives were incarnations of the holy books the Vedas, Upanishads and Gita -

ALL: All you Hindu saints; we praise you for holy are you.

CELEBRANT: Monks, nuns and all holy followers of the blessed Buddha, who, in the peace of Zen, created peace in others; All who sought the bliss of Nirvana with dedication and practiced justice and compassion toward all.

ALL: All you Buddhist saints, we praise you for holy are you.*** 🤷🤷🤷
This is my opinion but I think that there was a deliberate infiltration of people (in the TEC) with a radical/liberal mind set who never had a calling to the priesthood but whose intent from the get go was to see this very thing happen (in order to undermine Christianity).

p.s. I can’t help to compare these people to moles.

I agree. When you create a “church” with this type of “inclusiveness” you’ll get a few normal folks for ever ten wackos. Their numbers are declining, attendance numbers are horrendous, and they’re the laughing stock of Christendom. The more they water down the Gospel and pervert it into a new world order sideshow carnival, the more they will lose people. Schiori was the beginning of the end for sure…

Back to the OP… Father Seamus Doyle, Episcopal priest, stated that he had been using this liturgy for about 10 years. He believed that the Roman Catholic priest, Father Hays had written it.

I did a little research yesterday on Roman Catholic priest, Father Edward Hays. He has written many books, I think around 30! The prayer that Father Seamus used can be found in Father Hays’ book Psalms for Ground Zero written in 1998. The title of the entry is 139 Litany Psalm of all the Saints of God on pages 240-242.

Will those of you that have harshly critized Episcopal Priest Father Seamus also now critize Roman Catholic Priest Father Edward Hays?? What should the Roman Catholic Church do to Father Edward Hays??

You can buy this book and many others of his at Ave Maria Press.

God Bless!

Great post, Jane,

I’ll criticize them both. It’s neo pagan trash no matter who wrote it. I merely posted this article to show that it is actually out there in a liturgy of the TEC being prayed and used. If it were being used in the Catholic Church I’d post it as well. Both of these guys are total flakes and sin is sin. I haven’t gotten time to today to check out your research but I trust you. You’re an honest person. Assuming this is all true, I hope the guy gets excommunicated from the Catholic Church, whoever he is…but I doubt ole Schiori will do anything about this or the bishop since just about anything is condoned in TEC and excommunication is non-existent except toward conservative Anglicans. God bless! 👍

well, at least he wasn’t worshiping the devil! I hate to say it, but this Episcopal parish is giving Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam a bad name!🤷

Scott,

Let’s make it clear, Virtue Online is very slanted in what they post towards the Episcopal Church. I would not call Virtue Online “Fair and Balanced”…🙂
