My wife and I were flippin’ through the channels and happened on an episode of ER. A 15yo girl is pregnant from being raped and her religious parents don’t want her to have an abortion and the daughter has agreed. One doctor pushes the abortion issue with the parents and an attendee drags her away. She says she wants to talk to another attendee because he is Catholic, but he insists that he would never let his personal views interfere with looking out for the best care of his patients.

Okay, I was immediately irritated that a doctor would single out another doctor because they are Catholic, but I wasn’t prepared for the next scene.

The Catholic doctor asks the girl if she wants the baby. She says ‘no’, and he gives her a device that ‘may’ (very high probability)cause a miscarriage. She asks if it’s a sin, and he says it’s a procedure that allows us to give God a chance to change his mind!!!

:banghead:  :crying:

Why???!!! It’s bad enough that they push their pro-death views on people, but why make it a Catholic doctor??? Just an extra kick in the teeth!!!

Geh, I caught the description of the episode and thought… They’re gonna insult Catholics somehow… Luckily I missed it… NBC apparently doesn’t mean Never Bash Catholics 😦

I refuse to watch ER or other idoitic shows like this. Let’s just simply boycot it and don’t watch it. That’s how they loose viewers. NBC might as well be called the National Bashing Catholic network.

I just happened to catch the scene you’re talking about near the end. I almost fell off my chair!

On a similar note, I was watching Good Morning America today.
Apparently there is a trial going on in Italy to determine the existence of Jesus Christ. Be that as it may, the kicker was when the reporter called it the most blasphemous trial since “Miracle on 34th Street”! Is he really equating Santa Claus with Jesus Christ?

The real battle is about to begin!!! The war of the Church vs. antichurch, just as John Paul II predicted. The worst of the persecutions is yet to come.

Give God a chance to change His mind?

How about:

“This is a device that allows us to play god so we don’t have to handle what God wants.”

Bunch of anathemas!

I wonder if any of you paid attention to the scene preceeding the one being spoken about here. It showed that the girl was raped, perhaps repeatedly, and didn’t even know who it was that raped her. Is that the will of God? I’m not a huge fan of abortion so please dont think that, but as someone who survived a rape myself, I know that if I had become pregnant from that, there is no way that I would have been able to look at that child and not relive that horrific experience. I think there are instances that warrant termination.

How would an abortion “relieve that horrific experience”? The answer to the horrible act of violence, rape, is not another horrible act of violence, murder of an unborn child. An abortion won’t make her forget or help her to heal.

Of course God didn’t will for that girl to get raped but somehow He brought some good out of it, a beautiful child.

Wouldn’t adoption offer an alternative then? No reminder of the experience while also gracing another couple wanting a child?

We do not advocate cowardice acts and to do so is just simply whimpish and a rejection of the will of God.

So, you’re saying that it is the will of God for some women to be violated in an unimaginable way? I have no way of knowing if you are male or female, and it really doesnt matter. I sincerely hope that you are not calling me a coward or any other woman who has had to suffer through the ordeal of being raped. It’s wonderful if you’ve never had to deal with it personally or even know anyone who has had to deal with it. Congratulations. Really. But for you to say that it is cowardice to not want to look your attacker in the face every day for the rest of your life is absolutely outrageous. You obviously have NO IDEA what that feels like.

Since when is a child a choice? I never said anything rape being the will of God. You just simply put words in my mouth that aren’t there. Do you realize that God can bring good out of evil?

There have been many episodes that I was actually impressed with. They usually treat preemies with dignity and it tends to weigh more heavily on the pro-life side. This began to change when Carrie came out of the closet and has gone downhill since. I was disturbed by the fact that they used a “Catholic” he is a non-practicing catholic btw, to do the abortion on the “christian” girl and giving her Scripture to justify the abortion. Basically telling her that until God breaths the life into a person they don’t have a soul. Awful, awful stuff. That is the last time I will ever watch ER.

Abortion doesn’t “fix” a rape, all it does is add more to weigh on the woman’s conscience. If a woman has the baby and gives the baby up for adoption, at least she will know that the child was not a victim of murder. Why add one more thing to haunt a woman forever? Far too many women are left with regrets after being told by our culture that it was their “right” so they have nothing to feel guilty about. I know women who have attempted to drown out that guilt with drugs, risky behavior, risky sex, you name it. Our culture makes women vicitims once more by not validating the woman’s feelings of regret for having an abortion. So many women do it out of duress and realize that they made the wrong decision and it truly does haunt them for their entire lives.

It was obvious in that show last night that the girl was so distraught and upset, yet she was also unsure of her decision. Abortion isn’t an act that you can take back. It can’t be undone. A friend of mine from highschool tried to commit suicide* months* after an abortion. None of her friends knew about it until we went to see her in the hospital and she started screaming “I killed my baby, I killed my baby!” There was no one to make her feel guilty, she was pro-choice, she was 17. We had pro-choice friends who would have supported her, but she didn’t even tell them. She kept looking at me and saying “Why didn’t I listen to you? You were right! I killed my baby, I don’t want you to look at me, I don’t want anyone to look at me.” She has never been the same since. She later said that she didnt’ want to tell me about it because she knew I would try to talk her out of it. I told her that no matter what she is my friend and I love her, but her life has spun out of control. It’s very sad. This experience is one of the many that lead me to be actively prolife. Abortion is bad for women, it doesn’t fix any problem, it only creates much more baggage for them to carry around.

I would demand that ER be removed from the sets. People still think that bashing Catholicism sells. Mel Gibson delt Hollywood a major blow and the effects are really begininning to show.

Last night, after watching that ER episode I saw the previews for “The Book of Daniel” and it just made me sick.

I am going to talk to my husband about just getting rid of our satellite and buying only the good movies, or series on DVD that I want for our family collection. I am sick of so much of our money going to support that garbage, I would rather my money support only good programming and movies via DVD purchase.

We never support HBO or any of the other movie channels, and we tell them why, but we keep our satellite network for news and local programming, EWTN, the history channel DIY DisneyChannel Nickelodeon, etc. Those channels are all getting worse and worse. (aside from EWTN, of course) I might cut the umbilical cord…and buy or rent only the media I want to enter our home.

On PBS there was a segment on Sesame Street that had a little clip where they were showing different kinds of families and snuck in one with two female parents and said “this is a family as well”. Talk about homosexual agenda, that Sesame Street show must pull that one segment out! The TV has lost its credibility and I feel its just not safe anymore. What’s going to be unsafe next our own homes? It may very well come down to that. Will parents be forced in the privacy of their own homes to teach children things that go against the moral absolute? Will parents be monitered what they teach their kids? Maybe you should pull the plug on PBS too with their liberal propaganda network.

We get only the local stations so we don’t watch much tv here. You can watch EWTN on your computer though. Its hard to gather around the computer to watch, but its better than paying for all those channels we won’t watch.

Frankly, that distrubs me. Is there any chance that the Sesame Street show was showing two aunts taking care of their sister’s children or something?

I quite agree. Friends of ours recently adopted a child that was conceived from a rape. My friend is the happiest I’ve ever seen her, she is absoloutely totally in love with this baby. She has reached out to the birth-mother, but she isn’t ready. When and if the birth-mother wants to see the baby my friend says she’ll be there to thank her over and over agin for the precious gift she gave her. God brings people together through crisis.

Let’s see–the episode didn’t depict the Christian parents as maniacs…in fact I think it presented their viewpoint respectfully. As far as a Catholic doctor offering a potentially abortive procedure, how is this Catholic bashing? I don’t get it. Are there Catholic doctors who do this procedure? I bet there are Catholic hospitals that do.

So, you could certainly complain about the show depiciting things which violate Canon Law and the Catechism, but that isn’t Catholic bashing.

John
