hn,
I think by “here” he means where he lives, not here at CAF. He’s mentioned in the past that there are LCMC Lutherans who are rather critical of the LCMS.

Jon
Here in the tundra…I have yet to run across lcmc on here

That’s what I thought you meant. What’s this “cranky old man” stuff? I’m just an ol’ softy. 😃

Jon
:rotfl:

See you are to busy on the other thread to notice lol. I had to move along.

“It is no secret that Martin Luther eliminated all works as having anything to do with our justification/salvation.”

That is a poorly written sentence.
This isn’t an English class, its a religious forum. What do you think about the substance of the article?

I kind of believe he/she has much dislike for any thread that points out a difference. 🤷

I think if Lutherans would take the time and read Pope Pius XII’s encyclical “The Mystical Body of Christ” they would get a pretty good idea of the errors of their spiritual father.
Does the “Spiritual Father” of the Lutherans have any error? Lutherans do not view anyone other than God the Father as their ‘spiritual father’.

If this is true, then they are being un-Scriptural. For does not the great St. Paul call himself our spiritual father? And does not the Scripture refer to Abraham as our spiritual father?

Well I don’t know, “does it not”?
But the point I was making is that it seems a little odd to call anyone other than God the Father our “Spiritual Father”.

Well, the Bible does.

Unless you think that Abraham is the Jews’ *literal father? And St. Paul claims to be the literal *father of the early Christians? :nope:

ah yes, seems he obviously is not. So who where they referring to when they said the Lutheran’s “Spiritual Father”

Fr. Martin Luther of course!
Hm. Of course? It seems the obvious answer, but I do not pray to Martin Luther, I do not really follow his teachings or rely on him as I do my actual Spiritual Father…I don’t really feel Lutherans have any sort of “Spiritual Father” besides Father God

Well, the Lutheran who posted above me here does. 😃

That’s not to say, PR, that I don’t understand the point being made. Lutherans preach Christ, and Him crucified. Not Luther, Paul or Augustine. But these and many others are valuable guides for us as Lutheran Christians. As Chemnitz said, *We also gratefully and reverently use the labors of the fathers who by their commentaries have profitably clarified many passages of the Scripture. And we confess that we are greatly confirmed by the testimonies of the ancient church in the true and sound understanding of the Scripture. Nor do we approve of it if someone invents for himself a meaning which conflicts with all antiquity, and for which there are clearly no testimonies of the church. *

Praying to someone in heaven is not worshipping him, Krdruesedow.

Nothing there that Catholics ought to disagree with.

I do hope you note the irony, though, in quoting St. Paul while saying that you don’t preach St. Paul, but preach Christ. 😉
