You have compassion for non-human species. This is a sign of divine grace.
It is easier to be vegetarian in some parts of the country than others. I’m 45 minutes north of the border and Mexicans are highly carnivorous (I don’t mean that in a negative sense). They love their chicken & beef.I ate some fish the other day at a luncheon. So I am about 95% vegan with allowances for special occasions. It is sometimes very hard and counter cultural. At a Mexican restaurant I get vegetable fajita but don’t ask what all is in the tortilla and chips.
Thank you! Yes, I think that people forget how much we’ve grown in the past several hundred years. With the advent of modern medicine, people are living longer and well, living at all…think of all the children who used to die frequently before age 5; all the women who could die in childbirth; all the diseases that would wipe out half the population (the plague etc). Now, in a perfect world, everyone could eat vegetarian/vegan…but as we all know, such a world doesn’t exist. I would honestly love to be vegan if I could physically do it…it’s cheaper and yes, cruelty free. But the problem is demand for meat. society is too big, to humanely raise and humanely slaughter livestock. maybe back in the 1400s and earlier when the world was smaller, it was easier to humanely treat the animals that were consumed.
Today it just isnt possible to do things humanely and make a sustainable profit and living, society would just collapse if things slowed down. It collapses when water mains break during natural disasters, or when power goes out for months on end, life becomes a living hell.
And that is reasonable.I figure the very least i can do is to make the best of the food i do get, create a wonderful meal, be thankful for what i have and not waste it. An when i can to buy from trust worthy humane farmers.
Lobsters lack certain pain receptors.I accompanied a few people who were fishing on a boat, and I saw how the fish flipped and flapped around on the floor of the boat after being caught. Also, I feel sorry for the live lobsters as they are put live into a boiling pan of water to be cooked.
