Buchanan holds forth on the meaning of the EU rejection:

"…The new constitution is dead. New Europe has been rejected by the people in whose name it is being advanced. Repudiated, as well, were the political elites who campaigned for that constitution. But though Brussels is unloved and Jacques Chirac has lost France, this was no vote of affection for or confidence in Bush’s America.

This was a nationalist-populist protest demanding that France be France and Holland be Holland, and to blazes with the world. It was a vote against the free-trade globalism of George Bush and the Reagan-Thatcher economic model the European Left decries as “savage capitalism.”

It was a victory of the Old Right that would restore the sovereignty of France and retain the national independence and unique and separate identity of the French people and culture. It was a vote against both Islamic immigration and Turkey’s membership in the European Union.

Turkey’s quest to enter Europe appears dead, as the likely leaders of France and Germany, a year from now – Nicolas Sarkozy and Angela Merkel – oppose its application. Where Turkey – a nation of 70 million, estranged from its old NATO ally, America, and shut out of Europe – goes from here is a great question. Tehran, Moscow and Beijing would seem to be the probable next stops.

This was also a victory for French socialists and communists who are demanding retention of the 35-hour work week and the cradle-to-grave security they believe to be the great achievement of the Left.

But this Right-Left backlash against globalization and integration of Europe cannot save Europe. For the de-Christianized European Union does not contain a single nation where the birth rate is sufficient to replace the population. Europe has begun to die. In 20 nations, the native-born population has begun to shrink. The cohort of workers entering the labor force is not large enough to maintain the welfare benefits, pensions and health care for retirees and elderly…

Europe attempted suicide three times in the 20th century. Appears it will succeed in the 21st.

Been following the Airbus A-380 debacle? Ten solid orders for a plane scheduled to be six months late. Management infighting and the cost of the jumbo has put the the best chance to fighte Boeing–the A-350–behind to the point which it may never be built.

An interesting opining, but not one I would consider accurate. I am pro-European on the whole but even I can’t think of and haven’t heard any reasons why we should go ahead. I mean, I think if it means we will have more social justice, the rich people in Europe helping out the poor, then great, but there really seems to be very little publicity regarding why it is a good idea…You hear plenty about why not from Veritas and UKIP and the Conservatives over here! I’m interested in politics and I don’t know, so what must the kids think?

However, it does make me think when I consider how the politicians all seem to think it’s a GREAT IDEA!!!..But somehow no-one seems to be able to say why…
:hmmm:

This constitution seems to add nothing at all to what’s already there- all arguments are empty and easy to overthrow, all European countries have a constitution that’s equal to this “new” European one, except this new one will give some more power to a European government and honestly… I do not think that is what we want here! Not that it matters even a little bit, because the major party already said they will vote YES because they think it’s best for the country…

…How can this be the best for us if they cannot explain it to us???

Europe is not and never will be America part 2, it’s too diverse there are different people with different attitudes and different values. A stronger europe would be good IMHO but at this moment I see so many things go wrong here, things that cost the “normal people” so much money, things that will get worse when we lose more control because of this constitution…

Hellooo… Earth calling,
PARIS (AFX) - Airbus SAS vice-president Philippe Delmas said the plane makerwill announce a new order for its A380 double-decker ‘superjumbo’ at the LeBourget air show.Asked whether Airbus would be announcing a new A380 order this week, Delmasreplied: "One can expect that."Airbus will hold a press conference tomorrow morning. The company has so far received 154 orders for the A380, of which 144 are firmdeals. Breakeven on the project has been put as high as 300 planes should thedollar remain weak.Airbus is owned 80 pct by the European Aeronautic Space and Defence Co (EADS)and 20 pct by BAE Systems PLC.

Lol…I was wrong about the A-350 and knew it right after I posted but time had expired and I thought maybe nobody would notice. That plane is limping along and late. Not close to the 787 in orders however.

We will see about the orders for the jumbo. CBS reported last night 10 firm orders. Airbus is hemming and hawing about them. Qantas says it will be seeking financial redress for late delivery of 12 A-380s.

Year ago, I gave the game to Airbus. But more and more it looks as the A-380 will not succeed. No profit for the USA in that as 25% or or of the cost of a jumbo comes from American vendors.

But the debate rages. For those interested, the Boeing v Airbus bout never ends at the airliners.net forum
