EU says Catholic Doctors Must be Forced to Abort

By Hilary White

EUROPE, January 3, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Network of Independent Experts on Fundamental Rights released a 40-page document ordering the EU to impose rules on Catholic countries to force Catholic doctors and hospitals either to abort or refer women for abortions.

The order came after Slovakia, a predominantly Catholic country, had proposed a treaty with the Vatican which specified guarantees for legal protection for unborn persons, including embryos. The European Union said that the agreement violated “international human rights” to abortion and EU laws.

While recognizing that its recommendations are not binding, the Network says that the right to conscientious objection was “not unlimited.” The report says that the right to conscience should be “regulated” so that where it conflicts with “circumstances where abortion is legal, no woman shall be deprived from having effective access to the medical service of abortion.”

EU Says Gay ‘Marriage’ Rights Should Over-ride Clergy

By Gudrun Schultz

LONDON, United Kingdom, January 13, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – UK pastors are alarmed at a report issued by the EU’s Network of Independent Experts on Human Rights that says clergy and registrars should not have the right to refuse to ‘marry’ gay couples.

The report states that “right of access” should take precedence over rights of conscience for clergy or registrars.

Although the issue is currently theoretical, since gay ‘marriage’ has not been legalized in the UK, clergy are concerned that the EU’s report indicates a growing disregard for rights of conscience.

There was no need to truncate the stories. LifeSiteNews.com allows anyone to freely republish their stories, in whole or in part, as long as it is acknowledged as the source.

This just trivializes the whole concept of “human rights”.

That used to mean something very grave: the right to not be genocided, the freedom of religion, etc…

Now the right to homosexually marry is a “human right”? It just makes the term meaningless…

Amor, I hate to make such a post on the public board, but you have elected not to receive PM’s or emails. Please read the forum rules before posting again. Quotes are to be limited to three paragraphs and moderator actions are not to be questioned publicly. Please PM me to acknowledge receipt and understanding of this request.

Thanks.

. Quotes are to be limited to three paragraphs
Could you please clarify what you mean by that? I was unable to find any clarification about that in the rules. Are quotes from any source whatsoever (including books, articles, both copyrighted and non-copyrighted, with permission to republish and without, Catechism, etc) limited to three paragraphs? Or is it only news articles – whether with permission granted to republish or not – that quotes are only to be three paragraphs in length?

If I may say so, I was not intending to “question” anything you did. I was merely trying to inform you of something which I assumed – perhaps mistakenly – that you were unaware of. I had assumed – apparently mistakenly – that your truncation was due to a belief that the material was copyrighted. My post’s sole purpose was to let you know that the holder of the copyright allowed republishing. It was not my intention to “question” you or conduct any kind of argument. I apologize if it came off that way.

Copyrighted or not, three paragraphs and a link. Occasionally Bible or Catechism quotes may be longer if necessary. There are general rules on the home page and a sticky with rules which may be peculiar to a particular forum at the top of each forum page. Should you have need to question a moderator, please use the PM function. That way, everybody is safe.
