Eucharist Poll - Receiving Style

Funny. I read somewhere that those recieving on the tongue don’t. Good to know.
 
The older man, in his 80’s, who told me to receive Jesus on the tongue…
Why ? Because our hands - completely ruin the sanctity of the Eucharist.

He also mentioned the Pope, handing out communion,
did not put the Eucharist in the nun’s hands.
He waited - till they " did it right "

(Is this part of the Vatican two thing?)

You don’t really think that, do you? That the sanctity of the Eucharist can be destroyed by our hands? I am shocked that anyone was ever taught that.
 
Yes. Uzzah - touched the Ark of the Covenant -
God killed him - right there and then - on the very spot he stood !
 
I receive on the tongue while kneeling. It is the most reverent way in receiving Our Lord.

I think you should qualify that by saying '‘the most reverent way for me, personally’.

The Church would seem to disagree with you saying it’s the most reverent for everyone. Do you think receiving on the hand would be allowed otherwise?
 
When I have received Holy Communion in a Bysantin liturgy it was written in the liturgy papers that “We don’t say ‘Amen’ when we receive the Body and Blood of Christ. Say your name if the priest doesn’t know your name and tilt your head back. Please don’t lick the spoon.” I have shortened the quote a bit.

I changed from receiving in the hand to in my mouth when there was a very tall priest (I am a very short adult woman.) who stood on the step when giving communion.

That is a ridiculous comment to make. You may prefer to receive on the tongue but receiving in the hand is no less reverent.
Your comment contradicts what the Church states!!

I’m also pretty sure that the Apostles received by hand at the last supper!

I receive in the hand. I am very uncomfortable having people’s hands near my face, so while I could probably tolerate it if I were to receive communion from my pastor all the time, that’s not reasonable. It is much more reasonable to just receive in the hand.

The issue of receiving in the hand versus on the tongue was raised once and he said, very emphatically, that there was no merit in the arguments that one was better than the other. Choose whatever you were more comfortable with. And he is originally from a country where it is rare to receive in the hand.

But that’s confusing two different things. The Israelites were told not to touch the Ark. Uzzah did and was punished. There’s no mention that the sanctity of the Ark was thereby diminished. They did not immediately destroy the (‘ruined’) Ark and build a new one, or re-dedicate it.
Its sanctity was not changed evidently.
 
I was taught at a young age to receive in hand. I do not even know what to do to receive in mouth lol
 
The majority of people in any parish do not spend their free time online talking about Catholicism either. You tend to get the “uber Catholic nerd” in these forums 🙂
 
With a humble heart and contrite spirit…whether by mouth or by hand has no bearing on the sanctity of the Sacrament, because neither method negates the real presence of our Lord!

On the hand, partly because of my anxiety.

If I had to worry about the host falling from my mouth, or making a show, or something, I’d lose focus on the moment and Christ’s presence.

A guy at work told me - him, the hand. Why ?
Because Priest might have germs on hand -
and put them in his mouth …
He was really vehement about it too -
( We won’t go there )
