"Eucharistic Minister"

Cardinal Arinze is a bishop, and he issued the document that said to stop doing that. John Paul II ordered the document to be released ( as well as approving the document’s content) JPII was a Bishop too.

If you consider that to be ‘petty’, that’s your problem, but the directive still stands.

If you think that it only applies to ‘technical terms’ can you please site the source for this, or are we just supposed to take in on your personal authority?

Not to speak for Jim, but the pettiness comes down in that it is not pastorally productive to nitpick over the usage in terms. Just because Arinze does something does not mean that every other bishop worldwide follows in lockstep. There are just more pressing issues for a bishop (or even priest) than to worry about if the term Eucharistic Minister is used. Church roofs have not collapsed yet over it.

The Vatican feels differently. If I had to choose which opinion to follow on this matter, yours or the Vaticans, the choice is pretty clear.

Ah, so a bishop may only work on one issue at a time? I know several who simply told their secretaries to issue a memo on the subject to the parishes.

I don’t think that there are so many Church roofs in such immienent danger of collapse that the bishop could not take the time to talk to their secretary about the issue.
