I was reading an old thread about Eucharistic Miracles which led to a discussion about Jesus Miracles in general and how they are all blood type AB. Someone posted that the blood type AB wasn’t around during Jesus’ lifetime.

I read the above article from the Shroud of Turin Blog about when the blood type AB first emerged and now I’m more confused than ever.

Did humans have the blood type AB during Jesus’ lifetime or not?

If not, what does that mean for Eucharistic Miracles and the Shroud of Turin?

There is a bit of info on google about the history of blood groups. Be sure to find valid scientific articles.

For instance this scientific article says

In another hypothesis, the first blood group had been AB blood group

So basically , the history of blood groups is still being determined, but according to those authors and researchers, there is good evidence that AB is the first blood group.

Meaning it’s likely that all the Miracles and Shroud showing AB could still be Jesus blood type?

Meaning, to answer your question, blood type AB was running through human veins in the days Jesus walked the earth. So yes, a certain % of people around at that time had AB blood 🙂

If Eucharistic miracles are approved by the Church, we can have faith in them.

The shroud is a bit different, What does the Church say about it? I don’t think there is anyway it can be an approved miracle with our current technology.

But millions believe it to be genuine.

Ok

""Within the past couple of years, I have written to numerous scientists who specialize in the fields of anthropological and molecular evolution (my research background is in cell biology & immunology) to inquire about the origins & appearance of the AB blood type. Specifically, I asked what is the first human or human-related sample that has typed as AB using molecular biology (DNA) methods; and when is the AB blood type believed to have emerged in human history?

The consensus from the answers I received is represented in several specific responses quoted below, “ABO systems have not been widely analyzed in ancient remains [using molecular biology techniques], there are very few papers on the blood system.” “There certainly is controversy as to when group B (and thus AB people) emerged.” A specialist at Harvard replied, “It is CERTAINLY [his caps, not mine] well before 10,000 years ago”, “some place the origin of B @ 100,000 years ago.” “I am very sure it was long before 1,000 years ago-based on DNA divergence from the primordial group A gene”. One of the world’s foremost authorities on the molecular analysis of the ABO blood group, whose laboratory first cloned the human ABO genes, was quite adamant in his response that D’Adamo’s claims that the AB blood type is only 1,000 years old “does not fit with the current theory of the evolution of the ABO gene”…and “is not based on scientific evidence”.

See the bold ? Scientists in the first instance don’t write to other scientists. We do what is called a literature review. We go though all the relevant peer reviewed published research in peer reviewed scientific journals.

So I am going to question this persons research background. Research 101 requires literature review. We don’t publish uncollaberated heresay.

Sorry. I keep trying to answer your question about what the CCs opinions regarding the Shroud. Every time I try to link an article, this article I linked in post#1 keeps popping up.
Anyway, it depends on which Pope was doing the talking. Pope Francis called it an “icon”. Pope JP II called it a “relic”.

What’s up with cloned lambs, they have blood… does that mean we do whatever and send them overseas where people don’t care?

So this means that since the scientist in bold broke with protocol and asked other scientists rather than read a peer reviewed journal, unlike the one(s) you linked an article to. Right?

That article you posted was, in part, over my head. Does it actually say AB blood was around during Jesus’ lifetime or is that just one hypothesis?

There is a certain protocol to research.

You can phone joe blow who is researching white cell mutations in crocodile eating Pygmy traditional Brazilian indigenous, and ask , hey joe blow , what’s the goss about AB … and joe blow will tell you whatever he wants. But for his response to be valid, it has to be subject to peer review. This is so the protocol of His research and conclusions can be examined for error.

For example, it’s found the population isn’t as pure as first thought, so the results have to be adjusted for great aunt flobwho ran off to marry her ideal Pygmy trad man.

The article I posted is discussing where these Blood types evolved and spread. Yes, it is accepted that AB has been around since BCE .

Author Joan Carroll Cruz has written a book “Relics” and a book “Eucharistic Miracles”.

There is another book “Eucharistic Miracles of the World” … almost the same title … but written by a large committee. Catalogue of the Vatican International Exhibition. “Presented by the Real Presence Eucharistic Education and Adoration Association, Inc.” www.therealpresence.org Published January 2009. Available from Eternal Life; 902 W. Stephen Foster Avenue; Bardstown, KY 40004. 1-800-842-2871

There is also a “group” that promotes the Shroud of Turin.

You can purchase a replica.

My personal “feeling” is that the Shroud is REAL.

Long story.

There is/are traveling exhibits that make the rounds. If one of them is hosted near you, make a visit.

Get your Knights of Columbus or parish to sponsor a bus ride.

See what your reaction is to it.

I thought, based on your link, that it was one hypothesis of several. No?

so heres how scientists work

we might suspect something, like AB blood group was the first blood group on earth. we do a bit of research and form a hypothesis .

so the hypothesis might be

’ AB blood group first human blood group’ ?

then we do lots of research, other scientists also , pick up on our published research and start researching it too.

when there is a valid Yes this is, we believe, the first blood group, based on lots of peer validated results, this becomes a theory.

at the monent we know AB has been around since the era of the Ancient Egyptians at least, in BCE. but we dont know if thia group is so old , its the first blood group.of humans.

So the Eucharistic miracles might not have the same blood type as Jesus did? If I’m correct, then how do we know that all these Eucharistic miracles are valid and Jesus?

Or do you mean humans DID have this blood type in the era of Ancient Egyptians, BCE but scientists don’t know if it’s the first blood type humans had?

I might be confusing you , Hope.

Ok
  1. We can’t know for sure, what blood type Jesus had. No one took His Blood and tested it.
  2. AB blood type existed in the centuries Before Christ (BC).
  3. Scientists are at this point forming a hypothesis on first blood type, but don’t yet have the theory validated. We don’t know yet what the first blood type was.
  4. Are all the Eucharistic Miracles, the Church validated miracles, known to have the same blood type?
