European parliament to punish countries that do not approve homosexual “marriage”

Ortho, some food for thought. In Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul VI made some predictions considering some consequences of the world’s acceptance of artificial contraception. In the time since it’s US publication in 1968, we can see the fulfillment of his prophecies. I need not be able to predict what consequences that legally recognized homosexual unions will have on society as a whole. All I need to know is that homosexual activity is in direct opposition to natural law. It is not God’s plan for us. Therefore, it cannot possibly bear good fruit.

I hope that the nations prohibiting “same sex marriage” in their countries will hold fast to their convictions and hold up under the pressure of the EU. We must offer much prayer for these countries, not the least of which is our late pontiff’s beloved Poland.

I’m surprised that so many people here are unfamiliar with the doctrine of the separation of powers. A resolution in the European Parliament in a matter beyond their legal competence is not worth the paper it is printed on. Their is no EU pressure on member states on the subject of same sex unions resulting from this resolution. It is politicians trying to justify their existence by talking about stuff.

I’m surprised that you don’t see how threats of sanctions and ousting countries from the EU could equal pressure. It’s exactly like political peer pressure as far as I can tell. It doesn’t matter whether they are just blowing smoke. It still takes courage to stand up to the playground bully. But gee, thanks for insulting my intelligence and that of the others on this forum.

Okay, since you insist on an answer. I predict within 20 years of gay-marriage being introduced, marriage as God intended it to be will be replaced by innumerable relationships which are closed to the gift of life, as two of the same gender cannot procreate. But that is just me, I can’t predict what will happen in 20 years, I am not God. Sorry to dissapoint you if my answer doesn’t satisfy you.
Well, I agree with you. We have innumerable relationships right now. We had them before gay marriage, and it makes sense that we will continue to have them.

I suggest that contraception was simply one result among many of a liberalization of society.

One could make the same argument about women in the workplace. More women in the workplace would lead to more demand for contraception. We would then see the fulfillment of the prophecy about women in the workplace.

We could also use easier divorce. Divorce was much easier in 1960 than in 1900. That would lead to more women in the workplace etc.

A much more inclusive cause of all this might be the advances in science and engineering that led to the movement off the farm and into the factory, followed by the move to a service economy. That set off huge social changes.

These things don’t happen in a vacuum, nor do they spring from nothing.

I don’t think you understood what I was saying. I was probably not clear. I was talking about the results of wide spread acceptance of contraceptive use on society, not what led to the use of birth control in the first place. See Humanae Vitae 17.

I could threaten America with nuclear destruction but that exerts no pressure on Americans since I have no nuclear weapons. Similarly if in democratic Europe people who support “gay rights” express an opinion that is only an opinion then that exerts no pressure on sovereign states. It is scarcely insulting to point out that people, who are wrong in saying that “the EU” is exerting pressure when it is not, that they clearly do not understand how the Union works.

Still I’m only a European Union citizen who votes in Euro-Parliamentary elections what do I know?
